I have made some more changes to the karma system that I want to explain for everyone. Here are some of the problems with the old system:
- veteran members with high post counts and high karma, had a much higher karma power than regular members (like 20:1)
- Karma counted the same in all forums
- negative karma counted less than positive (half as much)
- people could go back and give karma to old threads (even closed ones)
I just installed a mod that addresses all of these issues.
- The new system put a 5 point cap on karma power. This means that no ones karma power can count more than 5 times as much as someone else's.
- Now karma in the tech sections counts more than karma in the regular sections.
- Karma in the social (and private) sections does not count at all.
- You can no longer give karma in old or closed threads (to prevent abuse).
- I modified the power calculation so that more people will be at the max power (making it less exclusive).
Not everyone will like these changes, but they will help balance the karma system and prevent abuse. Feel free to reply with comments and questions.

I think all the changes are for the better. Your karma is more than 5 though.

pfft, I don't read threads that may contain useful knowledge to my posts. Type first, investigate later, that's my motto.
hehe.

Uh, everyones was more than cut on half. SixSick6' was at 17, now it is 5.
Mine was at 20. The point is that those are too high in comparison.

The limit is set so you have plenty of time to give it (like 6 months).

I don't understand what the importance of not giving karma to old threads is. If a thread really helps you then what does it matter if the thread was todays or 2 years ago? I still get karma from time to time for the write up I did on the headers installation in the 2g section. I did that almost a year ago but it's still helping members.

Any way of not making that rule apply to the project section? When I use an old thread in the projects section, I feel the poster still deserves karma.
Its over a year old and was recently resurected and I have recieved nearly 50 karma points in the past week or so from that thread ..
So if the 6 month thing is in effect .. does that mean I wont get anymore karma for that thread ? If so I think that sucks !

It is just a thought.
That is actually a very good idea. I will see if it is possible.

I kinda agree with metal here. It's going to suck if you can't give karma to the person that posted an old thread that helps you out now, if they have not posted on an updated thread in that section.
