Who cares if its an old thread?

Ok, so i have noticed that if a new member brings up a really old thread, he gets told not to bring up an old thread and then that thread gets closed.

Well, i guess that defeats the whole purpose of having a search. Old thread or not, its still valid information and if that particular member wants to bring it back to talk about it a bit more or has questions about that particular thread, then i say that should be perfectly legit.

If a member starts a new thread, he gets ranted on saying use the search and stop posting repeat threads, but if he brings up an old thread, he gets ranted on for bringing up an old thread..

If you don't want members bringing up old threads, then they should be all locked and archived. I say, as long as that thread is still active, it can be brought up at anytime.

I may not be perfect, but I'm Canadian and thats close enough!!!!!!!!

Depends on the circumstance.

I actively encourage and applaud the use of the search function the the bringing up of old threads in the tech sections.

However, there is a certain level of common sense that is missing when a person bumps a 5 year old for sale thread, asking if he could buy the distributor.

Ultimately, unless someone has a BLUE name, they shouldn't be telling anyone to search, to not bring up zombie threads, or etc... and if anyone with a blue name (ie: moderation staff) is abusing this in instances where it should be allowed (tech sections and the like) then by all means report it to me.

The non moderators who are playing post nazi can be kindly told to stuff it.

I find myself closing zombie threads pretty regularly but the ones I close don't have any useful information in them anyway. I only close them to stop all the post nazis from harassing the thread bumper.

I just closed another one that some noob bumped from the year 2000. The problem is that most of the threads that old are no longer useful because the information has been covered a million times since then and the OP's in those threads are long gone now.
