Well boys and girls, perhaps it's time we had a little chat.
I've been thinking that the MX6 community needs to be a lot more active in terms of mingling, and toying with our cars. I'm proposing that we get as many people together as we can, and have a technical troubleshooting session, along with a nice meal in the evening. This includes folks from the OC side.
We could also use a juncture like this to have a bring & buy, or swapshop with bits. I have boxes and boxes of bits to get rid of, so I'd like to give a fair bit away.
It’s crossed my mind a few times but the logistics would be a bit of a nightmare. Don’t get me wrong, I think it would be a great idea and I’m all for it.
I think the reason we don’t get together more often is the distance between most of us and as Robert says it can work out a bit costly,
but if we all put a bit of effort in I think it is achievable.
My thought were to some sort of workshop weekend.
Obviously it would need to be a place where cars could be worked on without causing large disruption, a works car park or somewhere.
If there was a Travelodge nearby accommodation could be as little as £12 per night per double/twin room.
There is always the concern that some would use it to get their cars worked on by others so some arrangements would have to made so that everyone chipped in, even if it was just help prepping or cleaning parts.
When it comes to the cost of attending a weekend such as this probably the best way to look at it is if you need a cam belt or water pump doing (and you haven’t got the confidence to do it yourself) you would be looking at the best part of £200 in a garage. Having experts (loose term) around to guide you through the process would be invaluable and a dam sight more cost effective.
Maybe a start would be a get together and have someone give a talk on something like fitting HID’s, refurbing a calliper, building a ‘code puller’ etc.
Things I can bring to the table -
1) Code Puller advice - all you need is an LED and a paperclip, I can show people this.
2) Engine advice - I'm fairly good with the engines and can try to sort issues out for people.
3) Bodywork & Interior help - again, I'm not bad at this as I've had most things off the car and back on at some point.
I have lots of tools, a compressor and a lot of spares. So I'm more than happy to ante-up on this in terms of getting dirty
Hi all
this sounds a great idea i would be up for this depending on location , i do have a couple boxes of tools and some basic knowledge of cars.

Would it perhaps be wise to contact one of the various race track sites around the country and ask to use some of their empty workshops / pitlane workshops? Yes it might cost us a few bob, and we'd certainly have to sign a disclaimer protecting the site, but it's a thought? The main ones I'm thinking of are Castle Donington, Silverstone and Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds (Top Gear Central).
Perhaps Paula, with her awesome contacts may have a chance with this?
Love that idea Ben, or maybe a motor type musium, or a show.
I would drive up to 100 miles I guess, so thats northampton, southampton, derby or anywhere in the middle.
Be a great laugh if we could get an overnight cheap at a B&B, then the beer can flow after the fix it?
I would be happy to do some looking around, if people are interested?
Mike

Sounds good to me if i have managed to obtain a 6 soon. Not got many spares just a few small bits but always willing to help out where an extra pair of hands is required.
