Those of you who have been members here for more than a year or so will remember Mike (Chastiser) and his good lady Pam (Isouda) last seen on this forum around this time last year. Mike was the Events Rep up until Trax '04 when he disappeared from view. Shame, 'cos he's a good fun type of guy and was a pleasure to know.
You may also remember that shortly Mike bought Bedlams "Black Beastie" last summer it hydrolocked when he found an unexpected deep puddle just round a corner and his CAI sucked up too much of the wet stuff. Apart from turning up on his m/c to hand out the Trax tickets, none of us have been able to get in touch with him since (not through lack of trying either). Mike was understandably gutted and being the sort of guy he is, tried to sort things out himself rather than ask others to fix things for him. Well, guess what? I've just had an email from Mike and he's still alive and well. ![]() Unfortunately he didn't have the resources to do anything about Beastie at the time (still hasn't) and has been driving around ever since in his old MX6, which he had given to Pam. That car is now "ill" and from the sound of it won't last much longer. The engine's good though, and he's asked if I (we) know of anywhere he could get the engine swapped from red to Beastie fairly cheaply. I think you know where I'm going.... Does anyone with the necessary expertise fancy helping out by doing the swap for beer money? I'm certainly up for it but wouldn't be capable of leading things 'cos I just don't have the experience. I'll certainly be there though to aid where I can. All we need is someone with the tools and knowledge to tell everyone else what to do in the right order. As a reminder, it can be done in a couple of days (for those in doubt, see my home page) and that included getting a new gearbox. At the end of things there will be a red MX6 for breaking/spares (Mike may want to keep some bits). So, come on, who's up for helping a valued member of the club get his car running again? Oh, nearly forgot - Mike's in Hemel Hempstead. Cheers, Ken |

when is this "event" likely to take place? If it doesnt clash with any other activities (trax/ten of the best etc) then I'm up for lending a hand, no problem!
I'll ask my mate what he did with the photos he took during the swap we did. He took pics of EVERYTHING with a digi camera so that he had planty of references when putting it back together. It was cool watching him plug in all the connectors n pipework with the laptop sat under the bonnet. Bloody useful! Forgot to mention, an engine hoist is a must! can be rented for about £40 a day. |

I saw him online earlier, was going to pm him to see if he sorted the 6 out. Last time he was heard of was as you said the Travel Inn in Aylesbury.
Sad news about the otherone dying as well now, but the 2 will become 1 and rise phoenix like from the ashes. It sounds like its time for Kyle to get his overalls dirty ![]() |

Ken/Mike - I'm due holidays sometime - got the choice of going to Majorca for a week, but I'd rather drive "dawn saff" - If you need me let me know - not a problem - Us Scots are good like that................
Hope all goes well, as certain members will know, I have been somewhat concerned with the lack of a "Chastiser" on the board............ G |

Its bloody miles from me but im always up for a laugh. An mx6 engine swap is an easy thing (once you have done it a few times and know all the short cuts!!!) and im up for a laugh. Would be far easier if we could have an engine crane already there though cause mine doesnt fit in the audi (you could always hire one). Recon we could do it in a day with both cars side by side (assuming all we are doing is a straight swap).
Ken on the basis you did yours with me id appreciate it if you where there and as im not on the boards as much can you let me know whats going on. Just PM me. Thanks. Ken can you also ask mike what he is doing with the old motor??? Might come in usefull!!! Kyle |

blimy, what a response.
guys, i am not, as ken says the sort that is comfortable in asking for help, just me i guess, which is why i have been a bit silent around here. however, biting the bullet a bit, and, wanting to keep driving a '6', i know i have in the end had to turn to friends for help. as ken says, what is needed is a swap of engine from my red 6 to the black one. the slight complication is that the red is auto, the black is manual, so gearbox will have to be swapped as well. this does mean however, that if anyone wants an auto box that is working fine, they are welcome to it (torque converter too). there will of course be other bits going once the job is done. i am gonna keep some bits and plan to keep the car in a garage and strip it over time, hopefully this will give me some bits to keep the black car on the road more economically, and pehaps be a source of bits for the club too, excepting those that help that have spares requirements, they will be sorted. however there will be a complete cloth interior going, its in excellent condition, almost like new with no rips, tears, ciggie burns etc. i will have two throttle bodies going too, as i will be swapping the one on the defunct engine as its a 'sorted' one. kyle is more than welcome to the old engine, but want to keep the power boost valve from it too. i also have a spare standard back box if anyone wants it. as to location of job, i live in some flats with 3 garages behind (one of them housing the black 6). nice and secluded and we can have both cars next to each other as kyle says. i can hire a hoist, but will need to know what else i will have to sort prior to the job. pam says that it would be a good idea to sort a bar-b-q too, to feed us?? the word grateful isnt really sufficient, but you know what i mean? i already have a week booked off work, w/c 16/7/05, done before this discussion started, that or any weekend really is suitable. guys, dont know what to say really, rgds Mike |

That's sorted then - lets organise a weekend.
![]() w/e of 23 July's no good for me - something about a 50th birthday "celebration" (but I don't see there's anything that special to celebrate). ![]() Other than that I should be fine. Thinking about it, the weekend before Mike's holiday would probably be best (16th and 17th July). That way we could do the swap and Mike would still have the rest of the week to finish off. Cheers for the great response everyone - let's get this done. ![]() Ken Last edited by kenholland : 6-18-05 at 15:05. |

Well, Ive phoned Mike a few times and never got a reply... but it's certainly good to have you back...
![]() I'm proud to have "arranged" the Kyle/Ken swap... but Ken has beaten me to it this time ![]() As usual, I never have the time to do anything, but I am always at the end of the phone for the problems and techie stuff... Only other thing I wish to add is:........ don't leave it as long next time you don't realise the benefits of being a member on here until you need them.. ![]() John |

hi john,
i suspect you were using my old number? i still have you and ken progged in on current phone and didnt get any calls on it?? life has been well...life i guess, and not been on the board for a while as you know, mainly i guess cos i have been a bit down about the car etc. roland.... a film about the swap would prob be sommat else valuable to come of the swap, as you say, info for those venturing into unknown waters. i can of course be free any weekend at all, and you are right, a list of requirements is important. the engine in the red six is running fine, but will need a gearbox swap as is auto, so the manual from the black car will have to go on it. had the cambelt changed about a year ago, so not sure if we need to do it again simply cos all is accessable? i do think however that external drive belts should be new. top of the list i guess is a hoist. awaiting other suggestions now. Mike |
