Oh the Shame - Pics of your first set of wheels

Was over at Piston Heads and they are asking for stories about your first set of wheels...Could not remember what mine looked like until I saw this.

My first set of wheels!....

My first car in 1980 was an avenger Tiger. I was the envy of all my friends for having such an exclusive motor.

ROFLMAO Apart from Gerry you lot must all be posh

I only bought the car (DAF 66) rubber band job, because it was my mums and she wanted another car. Heads turned in the other way way when I arrived at a Motorhead gig with some mates in that beast.

On the plus side I do remember getting 90 out of it going down the M62 in to Yorkshire.

My first 4 wheel car was a Chrysler Alpine..

very comfy.... noisy, slow, crap engine, gearbox, and died soon after..

previous to that, I had a Reliant Regal, and 2 Reliant Robins... and as bad as you think these are, they were reliable and cheap to run..

Can't remember what came after, but was probably my Opel Kadette 1.2s coupe..... Which I converted to Rally spec with a 2.0L engine and running gear from a Manta..
That did shift !

I did the same conversion on a Chevette john. I had two "A" series Mantas, one I broke for spares and found myself with the running gear sat doing nowt. The "A" series rear axle fits directly in the Chevette and I used a Slant 4 from a magnum complete with it's gearbox for power. I fabricated the propshaft myself to fit. The Manta brakes completed the upgrade. A really good, fast handling car for it's day.

I had a MK2 celica as well but the coupe with the boot. Not very powerful by todays standard and I'm sure the Avenger Tiger would have left it and a lot of modern cars standing. I shudder to think what it would be worth today!

Hi Gerry,

Yep.. A series Manta.. took the back axle, propshaft shortened, used the brakes, engine and box... radiator etc... and the best thing is all the mounting holes were already there, as the car was already made with a 2.0 as the GTE.. which I based mine on..

Here's mine, Commonly know as the black bitch, I had twin webbers on it but mine was an A plate. Wicked kit style digital readout that was useless but she was quick in a straight line.

Mine was like this, just in piddle-poor condition, white with a blue roof. Loved it until it was stolen...
