Pencil F1 - your thoughts AND the latest race

Very bad form by Hamilton to shrug off his amateur mistake as "those things happen"

IMO he should have, on air, admitted the incident was 100% his fault.

Also, after quali why did he have to make Alonso-esque "dusting off" guestures?

He is losing my respect as it seems his success is getting to his head in a bad way. He is arguably the biggest hope to rejuvinate F1 after the Shumi era and must not throw it away.

Kudos to Kubica though! Great race.

That's just karma for taking the p!ss out of his Dads driving.
(You listening Carl?)

I think he didn't want to come straight out and admit it because the stewards are looking into the incident.
His admitting fault may prejudice any chance of getting away without a penalty.

That said - it did come over as bad sportmanship and I hope he does get penalised. Apparently Kimi did for the incident with Sutil at Monaco?

I think it would have been a good race to the end. Kimi and Kubica were lined up to go and if Lewis was not in kamikaze mood, the three of them would have raced to the end with a pitstop to come...

Kimi had just started coming up to speed as well...

PS - Hamilton has now been hit (together with Rosburg - same incident) with a 10 grid-place penalty at the next race. Got off light IMO

Thats a fair point, I think that most people subconciously see him as a seasoned veteran because his head is wiser than his years when it comes to racing. Plus he's been driving for mclaren for a long time. But still, as you you say he is still an F1 rookie, and rookies make mistakes (as do we all).

Got to agree with one thing though he DOES need to watch that arrogance. The little show after qualifying was OTT and I hope he realises that.

Hi Guys,

Having been involved in Motor Racing for quite a few years now, Lewis Hamilton's ego is nowhere near as bad as some drivers that I have met.

Yes, I agree with you that he might come across as arrogant from time to time but this most not be confused with his total confidence.

He most certainly is a rookie still and is learning the hard way by his mistakes.

I remember the late and great Ayrton Senna hitting the barriers at Monaco in his McLaren.

He went straight back to his apartment there and was not seen for a day or so.

So they all make mistakes.

Paula

PS. I agree about Kubica..........To come back from that horrendous accident in last year's Canadian GP and win it this year is fantastic.

Mmmmm - any comments now?

I understand from the ITV commentators that Lewis has been showing more attitude the last week or so... even they think it's not good (and to get a morsel of crit from them about Lewis, he must have done something real bad)

I dont have any access to UK press - what happened?

Cant believe Kimi finished after that exhaust issue.. very lucky.

I think we should make this an offical sticky F1 thread... comments etc after each race?

Waddayathink?

Hiya,

I was down at Brands Hatch today and only caught a glimpse of the race in the Media Centre.

So I cannot comment on what was said.

I agree that we should start a F1 thread after each race .....

Take care

Paula

I think that it's easy to mistake confidenc with arrogance, I believe that you have to have absolute confidence in yourself to be a great F1 driver.

I think that Hamilton was trying to drive a very aggresive race, unfortunately he didn't seem able to focus his aggression and as a result lost a lot of time trying to make passes that were never going to happen. If he could learn to be more focussed he'll be a world champion for sure. I was sort of surprised that raikonnen didnt get black/orange flagged off the track bearing in mind that his car was melting and he had a large chunk of red hot metal flappin about just waiting to fly off and hit someone in the face. I guess the FIA's hatred for maclaren is almost is powerful as their love for ferrari.

I'm going to stick this for you in the lounge, and rename the thread ... ' F1 - your thoughts AND the latest race ' .. you may or may not be aware you can sub-headline your posts, and could reference that race you are talking about in your reply.

Still think they need to get rid of this paddle and no clutch lark .. lets see em take those chicanes at magney cours with one hand on the wheel and changing up/down with the other.
I'm not saying its easy to be a f1 driver nowadays, but to compare these guys with the drivers who HAD to use a clutch and change gear with a stick, no traction control etc running 800-1000 horses out of the 3 litre turbo's for example.. is ludicrus..

Enjoy...

Gone...

I agree it's gotten far too easy over the last few years, banning traction control is the best thing they've done with formula 1 in years.

Oddball you legend...

Ta for the sticky...

I am in 100% agreement that the driver aids should be lessed to the extent that they are really "driving" as before.

Also, have to agree (grudgingly, being a Ferrari fan) that McLaren are getting the short end of the stick these days.

Although, I do not really mind as in the MS era, it was always Ferrari that got the little straw.

Backlash from Spygate?

You're kidding, right?
Ferrari have always been the FIAs favourites.
