Andrew Flintoff retires from Test Cricket
Flintoff -- the greatest England cricketer ever to stumble drunkenly around Trafalgar Square (and take a few wickets too), has said he will retire from Test cricket after the 2009 Ashes series.
Since his first Test against South Africa in 1998 Flintoff has scored 3,645 runs with the bat, and taken 218 wickets. Injury permitting he'll add a few more to that later in the Ashes series.
Flintoff's talismanic impact on the England side cannot just be measured in facts and figures, though. Simply put, when Flintoff is fit he is the heart and soul of English Test cricket, loud, aggressive and terrifying -- even when the batsman at the other end of the pitch happens to be Australian.
Of course Flintoff has had his difficulties too -- not only with periodic dips in form and notorious confrontations with pedaloes, but also with regular injuries. Despite some great performances in the last couple of years he's never looked the same as his finest moment in 2005, when England regained the Ashes.
Then again, just maybe, if England somehow regain the Ashes this year, the best is still to come for Fred...

and he wasn't bad with the bat either ......
