G... it is a rotary.... and the same engine as all the other 1.3l ones
Some people class the engine as a 2.6 because of the way it works.. but Mazda will always class the volume as a 1.3..
in a boinger (rotary term for a cylinder engine) the swept volume is the amount that all the cylinders make, i.e. bore x stroke x no of cyl
however, in a rotary, while one chamber is giving power, the other two are busy doing exhaust and inlet, and this happens 3 times in a revolution. where as on a boinger, it takes two revolutions for the complete cycle.
so they class the one revolution as half of the cycle, so double the capacity, to give an equivalent capacity.. i.e. 1.3 > 2.6
hope this helps.
