MX6 being parted, pics available.

Okay y'all,

I have just got back from viewing this motor of which belongs to a nice chap called Sean. I've asked Sean if he is willing to strip bits for you all and send them on, and he is.

Right.... its a 2.5l uk-spec car. Reason for scrapping, Sean thinks the front bank has got some serious issues, with loud rattling / slapping / knocking noises, Maybe bent valves or hole in piston, so maybe most of the internals are of no use due to metal contamination of the oil. He has not removed the head or anything, so dont exactly know whats wrong with it. The front and rear bumpers have gone (fitted to his other 6). Some parts have already been removed from the car ready for selling, including the Aerial (working) and the front and rear Off-side lights. The dissy is off (No.6 at the bottom) ready to go as is all the boot lining. The throttle body is off and currently up for grabs on Ebay. Below are some Photos of the motor, you can contact Sean on 01303 892156, he has been warned of your calls, so dont be affraid to call.

Pro-Kart.. if your still after an Aerial, then i suggest you get in quick.

Specifically for Matt this one, he has first refusal on this..

Inside the motor, standard cloth (red/blue) trim. Drivers seat has unfortunately suffered the usual fate.

External shots... The offside has some damage to the drivers door ad back wing. The nearside seems all ok. The boot looks in good condition, and the spoiler is starting to suffer the usual slight chipping on the seams as can be seen in the pics if you look carefully.

If the engine is knackered, ask him how much he wants for the rocker covers... I could clean them up and paint them... without having to strip my car... I'd then offer mine up to some one here to do the same.

Who was it who needed an exhaust? Looks like one there that would last you a while.

Just spoke to him, I'm getting the rocker covers.

He's got 3 6's at the moment, one is the Uk spec that being aprted out. The other is in the body shop having some work done. He's also got a 2lt J-spec V6 it's an auto and the box has gone. He'd like to keep it on the road (only cost him £420), so would the UK 2.5 gearbox be a fit for the 2lt V6? Apart from the auto box, the J-spec is in great condition.

Hehe .. yes Sean actually has 3 6's .. plus .. a celica, 2 morris minors and a GTO

The 2.0l j-spec auto needs some bodywork, and yes we also talked about dropping the manual box out of this one he is parting into the 2.0l . I would guess the bellhousing would be a direct fit, but would then have to look into the hydrolic side of the clutch etc, but its been done many times before and i'm sure there are many threads on the subject to help.

Congrats on the covers Gav, just need to get them sand blasted clean and painted.

Paul.

Sounds like nothing more than a knackered cambelt tensioner!

Sean reports plenty of black smoke to accompany those rattling noises .. i think thats why he thinks its possibly a hole in the piston, and only runs on 5 cylinders.

The car had already been stripped of quite a bit, as he used a load of bits to repair some damage to his other one... So the car was missing bumpers, lights and some other stuff anyway... He seems quite mechanically minded and said it might be piston slap... like the rings had gone.

I did suggest he put the E-spec lights up for sale on here in the US section... and that he'd probably get around $200 for them.

Elmer has already asked me for my old rocker covers after I have clean/painted the new ones. I've said that if he can cover the P&P and when swapped over for his do the same offer on here again for just P&P... then anyone who wants to paint the rockers on their car can do so and simply swap them over... Cost would be around £15 for P&P I reckon... and a few hrs hard work cleaning sanding and painting.

It's a UK spec one... are you going to bore it out and swap it over? Hmm, could your throttle body go the same way as my rocker covers.

Yeah Gav, was thinking of doing the bored TB mod or finding someone who can do it for me. Could be a chance to do the "pass it on" thing tho, good idea!

If theres someone out there who's good at doing the bore out they could make a few quid by doing ours 1 after the other. Set up a standard rate for the work + postage and bobs ya uncle. Just have to hope I win Seans or speak to him b4 the auction ends to get my hands on it.

It depends on if you want to smooth the throttle body or bore it out... Smoothing out the trumpet can be done with a dremmel type tool... Boring it out... no idea.

If you decide to pass along the old TB, put my name on the list.

AmericanPie (Autophoria) does the boring. If you get this done you'll also need a new butterfly valve - he supplies this as part of the process.

Collected my bored out TB off Brian (Americanpie) last Saturday at Japfest

Top guy Brian, he spent a good 30 mins with me under my bonnet showing what to do, and more importantly, what not to do, pitfalls, suggestions, you name it. The guy gets a big from me.

Oddy.

Which one was Brian? I don't recall meeting him. Was it bored out to 68mm or did he smooth out the trumpet?

Let us know how you get on installing it.
