Wanted and offered (With a large measure of HELP!!)
OK peeps, as I've only got 2 months to MOT time on my current six, I need to get the other one sorted. It's an E-spec auto and it needs a gearbox.
There are a few options, my preferred one is to transplant the manual box in my current car into it. I, obviously have everything almost everything needed. I would like an ECU from a manual car with cruise control as I've been told that the programming may be different.
I will possibly need CV joints as the ones on the manual are shot and I don't know if the auto ones are suitable (Do you know John?)
The other option is to just fit another auto box, which is much less work obviously.
So, has anyone got either a good auto box, or an ECU with cruise control for a manual?
Also, and here's the rub, are the transplant team available for a weekend in Feb... Please, pretty please, with a cherry on?
In exchange, I have my manual (L reg, Mica Passion Rose) basically it needs tlc to continue on the road (cosmetically challenged is one way to describe it) plus:
The back box has started blowing
I think the cat is on its way out
Lambda sensors are gone (both)
It's very skittish at speed so I suspect the running gear needs looking at
And the aforementioned CV joints
Although it has 140k miles, the engine is sound although belts are due to be changed.
Depending wehat's robbed to go onto the other one, whatever is left will be available to members, I will let parts go for offers once the new one is running.
The driveshafts are different... CV versus Tripod.. but that's what the manual says..
I believe people who have done the swap, would know whether they can be used with a manual box.. I know Kyle (cruisemad) has done it for definate. I can give him a bell if need be..
Manual box would be the way to go, but although you might need to change the ECU.. it's because of the gearbox.. not the cruise control.. that's a seperate unit..

I can use my current 6 as a donor for the gearbox and all ancilliaries but according to the Mazda dealer in Winchester, if you use an auto ECU with a manual box, it doesn't hold speed properly (Well, on Probes anyway) I'll await the panel's opinion on that.
I think I've just bought a complete car with a manual box and cruise control. Complete with grey leather interior. It's got a knackered engine and some bits have been robbed already but it's in very nice condition.
So, I have everything I need to swap the knackered auto box for a manual apart from the expertise. Is anyone prepared to help? I can provide food, beer, crash space (Only floor or sofa I'm afraid)
Immediate goal is to put the manual box in the auto and have it running.
Second project (another time I'm afraid) will be to transfer engine and box from mine to the donor and then all the little bits to sort that one out.
Once that's complete, I'm thinking that the remains of mine can be robbed by the vultures before I try to ebay what's left. As an advance thank-you for assistance, anything required by club members can be reserved for the cost of postage.
So now I've sorted parts, all I can do is throw myself at the mercy of the panel for the manpower.
Sadly too far away, but I am always here on the end of a phone
Plus never got the time... too busy running this gaff
p.s. if there is a working aerial going.........

John,
If you could call Kyle, it would be appreciated. I'll have the donor car arriving this weekend so will be pulling out everything I'll need over the next few weeks so that it's all ready to drop into the recipient.
Ian, thanks for the offer, I'll probably be taking you up on that. I can get bodies that are handy with spanners but they're all bike guys so all the expertise I can call on would be good.
Kyle should be on the board shortly with all the advice you need..

Hello all. As usuall ive been busy and John has asked me to pop in.
Well the auto to manual conversion is pritty easy. Wiring is all of one wire (will dig out the diagram for you tommorrow and post it).
As for driveshafts. The passenger shaft will fit but i personally used both shafts off a manual. If you have them available use the manual ones as you know its right then.
Reading isnt really close to me... 215miles according to google.
As for the converion its not hard. One thing most ppl forget is the ignition barrell mod. Remove the plastics and you will find a cable on a spring. You can remove all of this including the spring and mechinism which stops you from removing the key unless its in park.
Anything else just ask.
BTW you got a spare engine???
