Timing belt kit..

Whilst doing my duties in another section, i came across this and thought it needed to be brought to peoples attention here, especially those that do not browse the USA Ebay for our car parts.. tut tut .. I'm not endorsing it, just bringing it to your attention, if you have a timing belt change pending ..

eBay Motors: 1993-1994 Mazda 626 MX6 Probe V6 2.5 Timing Belt Kit (item 320259593898 end time Jun-10-08 13:11:40 PDT)

Now i cant comment on quality, but at the same time the seller is'nt exactly a new member either. What you get for the price, is fantastic, over here i dont think you could buy the tensioner for the price of the kit.

You only have to start and add up the UK prices to see how good value this is.

belt kit with tensioner, maybe £40 at least
Pulleys probably another £25- £30
Tensioner.. never seen a pattern one, but as a guess.. £100 at least
Water pump £40 - £70

Either way, it's going to be well over £200..

Admittedly, most don't change the pulleys or tensioner... even so, that's still going to be £100 plus.

I was quite tempted by this

eBay Motors: 93-02 2.5L Mazda Millenia, 626, MX6 Hydraulic Tensioner (item 360057850363 end time Jun-11-08 09:11:18 PDT)

I have recently found out that the previous owner of my six changed the cam belt and water pump when he first got the car but he didnt mention the hydraulic tensioner.

After reading the write up for that Mark, i would say its a one time use only, and would have to be replaced again at next belt change.

Quote:
NOTE: Please be advised that the hydraulic tensioner comes with the pulling pin shown in the picture above. Once the pin is pulled off, the hydraulic tensioner will be automatically locked and no longer can be used.
So when the belt is next changed and the tension removed, the piston will travel past some sort of non-return latch .. dont know if this is due to the the company that copied it, or if the seller does not realise the piston can be compressed in a vice, or in my case, a valve spring compressor

But hey .. at that sort of money, £28, its cheap as chips... another reason why people should be checking out ebay across the pond.

Something small like this shouldn't cost a fortune..

You could rather spend the £130 odd at the dealer

If it gets flagged, it normally VAT that gets added, and we all know how much the government wants your money, even if your not spending it here ! If the seller marks it as a gift, or less than $20 i think, it does not get marked for duty, the downside to that is any insurance you take on the postage, pays what was declared if lost .
