Thanks for your replies - and after reading some of the other threads in the forum, have realised how remiss I was in not providing more details - sorry ! Am new to this, even if I did join 2 years ago. Will try to put photo on tomorrow, it's a bit late tonight - and cold !
As I said, my beautiful babe was a 2.5 V6, silver, smooth, responsive and a fantastic drive, until the head gasket blew !! It overheated just a bit and the head has a 7 thou warp, just a bit more than recommended for skimming, I'm told by Mazda. The rest of the car is in pretty good condition - it has even just had a new silencer box (which makes me wonder why they didn't spot that she wasn't running too well -curious !!) !!!
It has done 93k miles, is a late P reg, manual shift, MOT to April 2009, and is sitting on my drive in Berkshire, waiting to see what fate has in store for it. Has always been maintained by the local Mazda agent, has leather upholstery, electric most things - you can tell I'm not too mechanically minded can't you - but I love my car and I miss driving it one hell of a lot ! I can't afford a new or recon engine so it has to go, but would prefer if it went to a good home to be rebuilt rather than to the scrapyard. That car has kept me safe on all my long journeys and deserves better than scrapping. The sound system is pretty good too.
Any advice re next actions or price possible would be gratefully received.
please get back to me with an asking price ASAP as I have a breaker car on my drive but i'm not going to go thru the hassle of stripping the engine unless I know there something to use the parts on and the car is going Mon/Tues so I only have 24 hours to sort it.
It has been suggested that a figure in the region of £500 would not be unreasonable. You would of course need to see the car to judge if that is fair.
It does of course look much the same as other silver MX6's, (has alloy wheels also, forgot that originally) bodywork in pretty good condition, internally good clean condition too. Anything else you need to know ?
In my humble opinion, would be well worth rebuilding the engine. Only one of the heads was taken off, so the other head may be in better condition.
I have a couple of photos ready now. How do I upload them ?? !!!! I could email them to you if you wish ?
Upload the pics on your webspace... if you haven't got any, then use photobucket or imageshack etc..
Then click on the "insert image" button, and paste the address of the image in there..

Sorry but that sounds way too optimistic. With the amount of work and cost involved in doing a head swap (head gasket set, bolts, service kit etc) the car would have to be mint in all other departments to make it worthwhile.
Cheap mx6's with problems have been sold for as low as £40 on ebay recently and most mot failures or non runners barely fetch £200.
I honestly think it's worth more than that Windy...
Late P reg 96/97 with much less miles. I think in good condition would realistically be worth around £650-750... obviously you have to take the engine into consideration. and that would cost say £250-300 for a garage to repair with a second hand head. much cheaper if you can do it yourself.. and as Paul says, he has a couple of heads.
You also have to bear in mind that this is not Ebay.. and unlike that, you are not bidding on something that you take your chances with.. I am sure Meg will let anyone have a good look around the car, without being tied to a contract..
Meg... if it helps, you can email the pics to any of the moderators, and they can host it on your behalf.
