Well as the title says I am looking to buy a new 6 as mine is almost dead and I am reluctant to throw anymore money at it, I am hoping for leather, a/c, service history, manual, in either Noble green (same as I have now), Black, Silver, Have looked on ebay and autotrader and cannot see anything in really good condition, I saw that 1998 R reg that went for 795 which would have been perfect (Gutted), I have around 1000 which should get me something in mint condition???? Please help me find one!!!!!
This is pretty much the exact situation i'm in and I know the problems you are having. I'm now in a position where I have about £800 for a good mx6 and my requirements are nearly the same as yours.
A/c
Leather
Would love a Blue one, Silver or Black, missus hates red or green.
J-spec would be perfect.
Out of curiosity, whats up with yours? I'm only an hour or so away from you and if you're getting rid I might consider it as a project. Ive got enough parts round here thats for sure.
Problem is my budget goes up and down like a yoyo depending on what parts I sell or what work I have in. This week I will have about £800 for a car on Thursday but by Saturday that could be halved. Another thing i'm noticing more is that the difference between a 1992 "project" car with no mot, leather or aircon and a mint P/R reg 1997 with all the toys is only about £500 which makes anything with issues a real gamble if you're not careful.
If I spot anything I usually post it on here so keep an eye out. I didnt realise that Silver 1998 car had sold, but i'm not suprised.
Hi windy, mine is a 1994 with cloth, no a/c, I bought it in march 2007 for 400 quid and have done 27,000 miles in it since with no major probs, I have put 3 new calipers on it and some 17 inch oz Titans which I recently curbed (ouch), oh and a k&n panel filter, this is all I have done to it in the time that I have owned it but over the last 4 or 5 months it has been burning quite a bit of oil and after coming of the motorway on the way home from work each day it throws a massive cloud of smoke out of the exhaust, along with the abs light coming on at 60 mph and a key scratch that runs most of the way down the drivers side and both back tyres having screws in them which kwik fit say are to close to the tyre wall to repair + a grinding noise coming from the passenger side front wheel when turning right I think its time for an upgrade if you know what I mean?, I think I will hold onto the oz Titans and have the tyres done when I get a new one + have the curbed one refurbed, as I have always wanted leather I feel that it would be more cost effective to just get another, I must admit that this one has done me proud for only 400 smackers though!!!!!!
I agree, you could throw a lot of cash at it but at the end of the day you'll see other cars with leather and aircon and think "why did I bother?".
Problem we both have at the moment is that theres not enough cars out there mewting the criteria. Most have "issues" that make the purchase hard to justify and its definately a buyers market out there but its just finding "the one" thats proving tricky.
Its so hard to know what to do with prices being so close. I've ssen 2 cars recently and they show how much of a headache it is.
1992 J plate Silver - NO MOT/TAX, slight paint problem, new disks/pads, no A/C or Leather, no rear seat - £250
1998 R plate Silver - 1 owner, FSH, 120K, Full MOT, Leather and Aircon - £795
And there are other R/P plate cars on Autotrader for under a grand. Unfortunately i'm picky about the colour as i'm having a hard time getting the missus to accept I want one as a play thing so I need to keep her on side with a black, silver or blue one.
The hunt continues, if you see anything...... SHOUT!!
