Elmer,

Yeah it might be sad that an old car is crushed but that's the way things are, I've got £6000 off a brand new car which I happen to like even though it burns oil. No offence taken but I do know what I'm thinking.

Its a shame YOU personally have to own the car for 12 months as I have a frontera rotting away on my drive that I'd have loved to have swapped for your car and see that go to the scrap heap instead. Good luck with the rx-8 though mate, have been in a couple and very nice I must say. Pretty sure the rx-7 has a similar engine that burns oil and fuel like theres no tomorrow but doubt anyone one would try and put that car down.

Actually the Renesis engines don't burn oil and fuel like crazy - that only happens if you don't maintain the seals, and you have a lead foot. Wankel engines are actually quite good if you look after them.

The problem usually comes from people with no aptitude for maintaining their cars properly and not keeping an eye out for pinking or 'detonation'. There's a lot of rubbish put out about Wankel engines, mainly due to the other manufacturers trying to rubbish them.

A big thanks to Dave (Gnomon) for all the bits he's given me. Very kind. Big thanks to his lovely wife for the cup of tea as well.

This car was too good to scrap, but I think David has a fantastic justification.

There were bits on the car that simply needed a swap over - leather interior, the works. You lot missed a trick here guys and gals.

Hi Guys,

Just to rub salt into the wound but when I was at the Goodwood Revival over the weekend, I was chatting to an American Mechanic who was working on Danny Sullivan's 1960 Porsche 718 RS60

See: Porsche 718 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He said that the RX8 is very popular in the States but whether you drive them on the Interstate or around town, they all do 20mpg.

Of course, fuel is a lot cheaper there.

My friend Claire has a 1970's GMC Jimmy that does 7 to 10 mpg when she tows her Travel Trailer ( Caravan ) around .....

Paula,

As I've said I know what i'm getting in to. Are you saying talking to an American who works on Porches was like pouring salt into a wound or are you trying to imply that driving an RX8 will end up with the same feeling? Either way I don't have any wounds for you to pour salt in to, I'm pleased with what I've done and I'm looking forward to picking the new car up on Fri.

I think it was more an Ironic approach there from Paula - everyones wallet hurts with fuel costs these days. I can't wait to see pics of this beast you're getting, like I said the other day, I'm extremely jealous.

Hiya David,

Ben was on the mark as always.

I have always said that if you can afford a fast car then you need the cash to run it, so I was not implying that you had made a mistake.

So if you felt that I was in any way making a criticism, I wasn't but I apologise if you felt annoyed.

I like RX-8's and you have done a great deal. No car lasts forever unless it goes into a museum which one of mine will be, in the distant future. My 1990 Rover Metro GTI 16v SPI.

I am working on BaBaKa at present so that she lands up in a museum too as in my mind the MX-6 is the finest car that Mazda has ever made for reliability, stunning looks, all round ability etc etc.

I held up the people, unwittingly I can say, waiting to fill up at Tesco's this afternoon as a lovely old gentleman wanted to know what my car was. I briefly told him that it was a Mazda and he said it's a beautiful car and very rare too.

He said it was a traditional coupe like an Aston or Jaguar.

When do you get the RX8 David, I bet that you are getting excited now?

Take care

Paula

Pula,

Thanks for the kind sentiments, sadly the MX6 went in today and I'll get the RX8 on Friday. I know many would prefer to see the car on the road, but I was told an even more sad story when handing in my car. An R reg MX5 with 20K on the clock with one owner aparently beautifully cared fror according to the sales rep was worth about £5K but as the lady concerned had opted for scrappage and was receiveing £6k the car has gone to be crusehed......
Regards

David
