Boot lid gas struts

Where's the best place to get replacement struts for my boot lid? Are they standard items or Mazda specific?

Cheers

they are available from places other than the dealers... but can also be replaced with MkII Golf or Pug 205 struts..

oh c'mon...

I've put these nice shiny new struts on the boot lid only to find that, whilst they fit, they require something like half of my bodyweight on the lid just to shut it. The lid opens with enough force to smash my face in. Or bend the boot hinges. This can't be right. Are they meant to be adjustable in some way?

Nope thats how they are, sorry. But look on the bright side, you don't need to join a gym and you will never get your head lopped off by the original struts failing.

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a Mazda? Is it a Mazda

trouble is the top of my head's thicker and rather more resilient than my chin. I don't like this. I'm going to keep my open for a more suitable alternative.

This is an issue with all of them, they are intended for heavy tailgates rather than boots, most people live with it (I'm still waiting for mine to arrive from the states, I'll let you know)

If you also fit a remote boot release, you'll not need to be behind it when it opens

Yep they're pretty solid stuff, I have to remind people even more so now, not to close the boot by pressing on the spoiler
I only fitted one, and left the old one on the other side, works fine, maybe I'll put the other under the bonnet!

Yes, I've taken one of them off, leaving nothing on the offside, and its manageable now, provided I remember to press the lid down with even pressure on both sides.

Just bought some struts from eBay, they seem bigger in diameter than the ones they (hopefully) will replace. Can you tell me how to fit or direct me to some instructions?

Thanks
