Londoners - I've found a diamond!

Tony Davis, the owner of TD autos, was Mazda Streatham's chief mechanic for 30 years until they closed down. He's still right behind their premises, loves MX-6s and knows them inside out.

He's replacing my PCV rubber and doing the banjo bolt mod for me on Friday for 30 squids, plus 40 for an mx-3 flywheel. He's also got some rocker covers painted red available to any of you, which came from an mx-3 but are the same as ours. update: all work done fine, and they cleaned up my engine bay for free, too.

His other mechanic, Dave, just bought a mint P-reg 6 with leather seats for 2000 pounds, and it's all original, with only 76000 miles!

He didn't know about the club and is now on here as Chapman 7804. He's very keen to come if we do do a Box Hill meet. Funnily enough, they're repairing a fuel leak on an RX-7 right now.

Anyway, it's rare to find someone in London who knows our car so well, so his details are:

T.D Autos
Penistone Works
Penistone Road
Rear of 524 Streatham High Road
London SW16 3QF

07789 795 542

Here's the flywheel:

and here's the MX3 that his son (another ex-Mazda mechanic Dave)'s stuck a 626GT 2.5 lump in - very quick!

...and he didn't even mention meeting me there!

My car's sorted now too, though wasn't impressed when I rushed there by taxi at their request to pick it up dead on time as they were going to close up, arriving 40 minutes after that time to find him sitting drinking tea, saying "oh, I haven't done it yet"!

That said, upon my arrival he got it straight up on the ramp and swapped alternators in 20 minutes for 40 squids.

*** Caveat Emptor ***

*** He's recently started milking jobs.

No longer recommended, unless you're strict and clear on costings and labour before.

Also, today watched them use a metal cutter to cut off part of the lip surrounding the wheel hub bolt when their preferred machine shop bent it trying to press the hub off, instead of a proper repair!

Don't accept any 'add-on jobs' once it's in their hands.

Ok, I'll add a caveat - maybe it's just me that he feels he can do this with!

Please do make your own choices - if you find that he gives you a quality service and fair pricing, then it's good for you!

Sorry, but I felt I had to say something as this is the third time in a row, or maybe fourth.

well tbh I'm still using him, my car is currently in there for mot and some welding that needs doing.
I know Simon mentioned add-ons, but for me he's always been straight and nothing has come up so far that I havent been aware of. So I cant realy knock him.

Prices well not as cheap as Nick but not bad for London I guess lol

Ok great, thanks very much for letting me know.
My baby has literally just passed her MOT - I'm sitting in the testing centre now on my NetBook waiting for them to print the certificate!
