The bloke I spoke to was named Phil and you couldn't find someone much further from your typical insurance-guy-Thief-in-a-Suit; he sounded more like a someone you'd meet at a cruise or a car show. I could've even got another 10% off if I restricted it to under 7500 miles a year!

Just like to back Wychfire up with this one.

My insurance is due on the 16th of this month so thought I'd give this guy (Phil) a ring, and what Jez said was right not your typical insurance-guy.

I can't remember all the stuff he quoted but I ended up getting a quote for £360 Fully-comp with loads of extras too many to list.

Discounts for this and that ie:

5% for belonging to a club (ours)
5% for attending car shows
5% for subscribing to magazines
30% for under 6000 miles a year.
Oh and Track day cover as well.

Last year I paid £690 fully comp 0% ncb so to get it down to nearly half that this year with only 1 years ncb I'm well pleased.

He went on to say if I was to mod the car another 200bhp he'd only charge another £150 on top.
I had to laugh at that one

Forgot to say the only mods I have at the moment is my induction kit and my 17" alloy wheels Oh and the fact that I'm 48 I suppose that helps

Well had my renewal come though today from the AA.

Although it's come down this year it still don't come close to the quote I got from HIC.

The AA wanted £498 so I guess HIC get my custom for the next year.

As Dave said I guess it all depends on where you live
And ofcause how bloody old you are

Hi All.

This thread has saved me so much money $$)

Got this guy to quote and yes, he does sound like a wide boy, but the AA were charging me £700 PA full comp or £525 TPFT. This guy goes through highway and could do fully comp for £401 and TPFT for £225..

Went for TPFT in the end.. dead happy )

I have just renewed mine, with........................ Tesco. They were still cheapest even after declaring I had tinted windows, bodykit, spoiler, alloys, CAI and exhaust. They added the cost of the mods onto the price/value of the car so if anything bad should happen they are covered.

Matt

Quietly modding!

What's that coming over the hill? Is it a Mazda? Is it a Mazda

Im insured with HIC. I got a great deal when i first started up with them. However when i had to renew the price i paid wasnt so good! Hopefully they get their arse into gear when it comes to renewing again in aug, otherwise it will be to HIC, and go directly to highway! (who im insured with thro HIC anyway!)

Harvey - they tried to do the same to me. I phoned and complained about the price hike.

They said it was because the first year I had loads of discounts for club membership, mag subscriptions etc. When I said that nothing's changed and I should still get the discounts they agreed and dropped the price back down.

They'll all try it on. That's why they never send out reminders until last minute these days in the hope that you'll just renew at the higher price.

Oh, and Highway only work through brokers - I've already tried through work (we've got corporate fleet insurance with them).

My insurance isn't due for renewal until October, but what sort of things should I be saying to get discounts? What subscriptions do I need and so forth. I'm currently paying around £570 for a stock car.

If you speak to HIC they'll ask all the right questions Gav. They'll try to drop their price as low as possible to get your business. Just ask what discounts you can get...

(MX6.com membership, subscribe to Car magazine, etc)
