Hi All

Hi everyone, New to the boards so please give me a chance. Bought the mx6 gen2 middle of last year after writing off my Evo 2 Rs. Got to say i was quite impressed with the 6 even after coming out of the evo. Just starting to mod the old girl now. The reason i signed up is... i got out bid on ebay for a 65mm throttle body by someone off here You know who you are lol. MX6tt.

Anyway im sure ill post quite a few questions on here over time as im not that clued up on the 6.

Currently running 75 shot nitrous, Cai, Coilovers, short shifter, Custom Exhaust and 18's plus a few other bits and bobs. Dosnt look any different to any other 6 apart from the wheels and exhaust.... but boy when the nitrous kicks in wohoooooo you better hang on

If this is at all posted in the wrong place feel free to batter me silly

Never really thought about getting nitrous until i bought the 6. It wasnt that it was slow it's just that the evo was quick . So anyway yeah i went ahead and bought the wet nitrous kit about 3 weeks after having the car. Was a bit put off at first with all the horror storys but just ignore all the rumours and go for it. Main things are make sure you've got a decent running engine in the first place, That's a must. Just slip the lowest jets that you've got in and try it out if everything works out then decide if you want slightly more. I would suggest not going silly and personally i think on a slightly modded engine like mine 75bhp jets are the max. But as far as for bang for your buck there's no better option.... if there was a turbo kit out there then i would of gone for that but come on guys get sprayin..... you wont turn back.

I dnt have the klze engine but with the juice turned on i can kill my m8s scooby from anything over 30-40 rolling start. dont have a chance of the mark cause of the awd but hit 40 flick the switch and just watch that 6 go.

As for nitrous with an autobox, i would of thought it would of been ok, Just get the box checked out and any dodgey parts replaced and you should be fine. You'll never blow your car up so long as your sensible.... If you start with the lowest jet's.... lets say 25bhp you wouldnt have to upgrade a thing.... there are bolt on's that can add more power than that.... but it's a good starting point to test the juice. if anyone has any questions or is thinking about nitrous then pm me and i'll sort you out with some instructions on fitting so you can get an idea of what needs to be done.

People say that it's a couple of hours to fit, this i would diagree on it took me 3 weekends to get up and running, not that it was hard just if your going to do a job then you may aswell do it right... sorry about the rambling omg ive takin over the page

My reccomendations if fitting nitrous are:-
1. Get your enginge checked ( dont blame the nitrous if you dont) Bang
2. Go small and work your way up (Youll be surprised how many go 100bhp straight away and wonder why they blew up)
3.Check all nitrous lines and fuel lines over more than once
4. Mount the bottle securley (dont want it flying about)
5. Anything over 35bhp jets ( Uprated clutch, Fuel pump, colder plugs 0.30-0.35mm gap)
6.enjoy and have fun..... use only when needed and it will last a life time

These are just my opinions and are in no way the be all and end all... feel free to correct me if im wrong on anything. used safley now for a good 8 months so must be doing something right

Is anyone else juiced on here??

I'll go now

Hi there,
Welcome to the boards.
Don't worry about ranting on, we all do it at some point and it's an interesting read.
Anyway, good to hear about someone that's happy with the 6 after driving a more powerful car.
I hope she serves you well for a long time to come.

Hey juice thats perfect mate, nice to hear a scooby got to see the back of a 6 for a change. One point to clarify, .....

5. Anything over 35bhp jets ( Uprated clutch, Fuel pump, colder plugs 0.30-0.35mm gap)

Im being thick here sorry, are you recommending that you uprate the clutch and fuel pump if going over 35bhp? or are you saying its a must?

Oh and approx total costs??

yes, I am SERIOUSLY considering this.

No i wouldnt say the clutch and pump are a MUST for 35bhp jets but if your thinking of going higher then yes i would reccomend this. When i first fitted the kit i had the 35bhp jet's put in, they were the lowest ones i had. The car ran fine with no uprated clutch or pump. The reason i had a clutch was mine was on the way out... i could nail it in first with no nitrous quick change to second and it would feel like the clutch was engaged (slipping) so i replaced it... The reason for the pump was it's always better to have to much fuel supply than to little.... the last thing you want to do is go lean on nitrous...... big no no. Also reccomend a air/fuel guage. Also they reccomend retarding but i had a prgressive controller fitted and that does everything for you.

I would say the rules are:-
0-35bhp jets (no mods needed just a good engine)
35-50bhp ( A decent engine, regapped plugs, A good standard clutch, althogh i would upgrade personally, just make sure if your keeping standard parts in there as good as new)
50-75bhp ( All above + fuel pump and uprated clutch + colder plugs)
Progressive controller is also a good option with any of the above but not essential. Along with remote bottle opener and heater... these winter months kill the nitrous, no pressure. Purge valves are all show in my opinion but i still had to have one lol

Obviously the better the parts you have on your car the better everything will work. Do not use nitrous if you have your car chipped as i have heard bad things about this... apparently it will need remapping if you've added an after market chip... but i wouldnt know anything about that, just what i've heard.

Approx cost
decent kit (350-400) fit it yourself
add ons purge kit, bottle opener etc 60- 90 pounds
progrssiv controller 250 upwards
but you only need the kit to get you going the rest you can add on.

Oh almost forgot...... a good set of tyres is always a good idea as you'll spin when on the juice especially with out the prog. controller

Any more quetions please feel free to ask. Im getting in to all of this

Lee

Cheers Lee - good info.

Nice to see someone who's done it and willing to share the info. The last member we had with a bottle hasn't been seen for quite some time.

I may well go this route myself - but I've got to definitely get the clutch (and front tyres) done first. I'm already slipping badly on fast changes to 2nd and screeching the tyres in 2nd at 4500 rpm...
So bad in fact that I tend not to go WOT until the cars's doing about 40.

Cheers,
Ken
PS, seen the pic? http://www.mx6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117674 (65mm Throttle Body)

No problems, always willing to share some info..... i've got some fitting details if anyone wants them emailing let me know.... it'll give you an idea of what need's to be done if you considering it.

Yeah noticed the pic... didnt realise he was going to put them up on here but it's cool. Just a bit embarresed on how messy it all looks.... but never mind.
You guys got any meeting's going on, Wouldnt mind either a bit of track time or on the strip as i havent got any figures yet.... would also be nice to meet you all of course and your cars as there's some tidy lookin 6's on here.

Any idea of what i should be pullin on the quater and 0-60 with the 75 shot?
