My electric ariel has jammed in the open position with the motor still working. I guess some kind of gear has given up.A light push and some lube and it went down, did this a few times now it's stuck open. and i had to disconnect the power cable.Has anyone taken one apart? . I,m not going to do this as I still have an ariel but if theres a good chance of a fix i may, on the other hand i might just do it anyway.Has anyone got a spare or know of one,or what have other people done in this situation..I did rin g a local scrappy as i know they have a driveable salvage 6 asked if i could swop,no chance still worth asking...............Adrian
Its the teeth on the mast that sheer off.... the mast can be bought separately, or get another unit from any 626 or MX-6..

Quite possible, they may share a lot of parts through the ranges... take your old one to pattern it up.

I fixed my ariel by getting a new mast from Mazda. I had to take the motor apart to get out the broken bits of plastic toothed cord.Feeding in the new one is a bit tricky on your own as you have to switch on then off to get to feed in.Better to have someone else switching on and off rather than like me running back and forth. If that makes sense. Anyway it works well now for the cost of £25 for the new mast, better than a whole new unit £240..... Adrian
Quite possibly Dave, although you wouldn't need to wire it as fully as the original..
A normal unit will have 3 wires.. 12V, GND, and 12v from stereo....
The Mazda one has 3 power feeds, GND and the stereo..
The power feeds are a constant 12V, ACC 12V and IGN 12V..... you would only need the constant 12V feed..
