4WD 6 anyone ??

A friend at work has just had his 2lt Mundano 4x4 blow a head gasket. The car is getting pretty tatty due it being his wifes daily runner. It's been offered up to me as spares or repair in exchange for a few audio bits I've got lying around, and of course the thought of attempting a 4WD conversion on the 6 was the very first thing that entered my head.

So.........(flame protection suit ON).............what do you reckon ? Possible ?

If you have the ridiculous amount of money it would cost to throw at it... Yes.... But you'd need to modify the entire underside of the 6 to create a drive shaft tunnel, modify mountings, suspension not to mention probably rerouting things like the exhaust... The it's onto the interior, the whole dash/centre console and rear seats would have to be modified to allow for the tunnel.

There was a 4WD 626, and there is a tunnel already...
Admittedly, the exhaust does use part of it.. but the driveshaft could be enclosed so it didn't catch on anything.. and as you say, the exhaust would be different..

There isn't anything in the bible regarding 4WD, but it is certainly mentioned in my handbook..

4wd 6

I went to the Cosford airshow last year and there was a 4WD 626 estate there which belonged to one of the Liverpudlian burger maidens.

As Gav says, this is going to be one hell of a job if you do attempt it.

So its possible, but either darn expensive or very timely. I've just reached a point where either I attempt something mad on the car, or sell up and try something different. I'm afraid I've got a bit bored

So either there'll be a 4WD 6 in the UK in acouple of months (highly unlikely I admit) or there'll be low mileage Jspec up for grabs with all the goodies !!

The 4*4 mondeo is a rare beast in itself. Possible but the gearbox wouldnt fit our v6 which makes life a twat to start with. Nice idea but... not worth it really especially since that tunnel is also used for your 4ws and probably would need to be removed!!!

Yeah I figured I'd have to ditch the 4WS. Sounds like far too much money and hassle, so I guess the car will have to go. Moving to a new house at the end of the month so not in any real hurry. I'll be sure to advertise here first though.
