As if things couldn't get any worse...

As if things couldn't get any worse...

... My car is un-insurable.

Got my cover today, only to find they insured the car as a XEDOS 6!!!

I promptly phoned up norwich union as this cover has been over a month coming now and i have paid £500 so far to them to find my car wasnt insured.

But it gets worse, they cannot find ANY 2.0L MX-6 in their database at all!! They told me the car doesnt exist. I told them it was an import (AGAIN) and they said that they couldnt insure the car cos its not got its original engine.

I went through a specialist department and they said the same. They said that if i put the original engine back in then they would insure me. HAHAHA!

So, I called around every other insurance broker... all to find pretty much the same story.

How on earth do people insure this model? Do I stick with the car being the XEDOS 6? Do I tell the DVLA its a 2.5? Do I insure it as a 2.5L?

Bah, I should have waited for a 2.5

Any advice?

insurance

There are some Jap car mags at work and they must have details of specialist insurance brokers.

I will have a look for you tomorrow.

Does seem a bit daft - there's loads of cars running about with replacement engines installed.

Have you tried Adrian Flux. My mate is with them for his corvette and he's used them for kit cars, imports and god knows what else he's owned. They should be able to help, might not be the cheapest but they do deal with modded/import stuff

Have you tried tesco's onlline?
I used to have my Toyota Sera insured through them and they eeven had it listed on the web (its an import)
Also try Adrian Flux (as mentioned further up) or Liverpool Victoria. I have had imports with both of them also.

Hope that helps.

Try Sureterm Direct on 0845 2020230. They are a specialist type company and really know what they're talking about.

adrian flux and tesco insurance have both asked me if my car was a 2.0l or a 2.5l so give them a ring.

you could just tell them the engine is out of an X6 as the engine is the same then you would just pay the insurance rate for that car, if you were to smash it the would fix your car but would probally put a 2.5l back in.

thats what the deal was with a friends 205 with a mi 16 engine in.

with swaping engines like ricers do they end up paying the insurance rate for the engine that the car came out of.

like if you had a 1985 volkswagon beetal and put a porsce boxter engine in it you would pay the insurance rate for a porsce boxter, but it you smacked up the car they would fix the beetal and maybe they would put a new porsce engine if you had proof of purchase for the engine.

I blew my engine and replaced it and Direct Line were fine about it. As far as I am aware, as long as the V5 document is legit (ie, with your new engine detials on it) then you should be ok.

good luck with it,

RR.

Thanks peeps, all sorted now. their special department came to a resolution and accepted that it wasnt original, but would cover me but only for the 2.5 engine that the car "came" with. Not so bad then.

Does the V5 have the engine number on it?

If it doesn't, get it ammended. That way you have proof... And get a better ins company to insure you.

I just got a quote from Adrian Flux for £478 including the mods I have. Tesos were the worst at £840... I actually laughed at them when they told me.
