I've read about the courtesy door handle lights before but just decided maybe mine don't work, but anyway I noticed on gavroche's j-spec that he has them working and they look pretty cool! Are they J-Spec only? If not, maybe my bulb(s) are gone or a fuse?
Also similar, I lost my rear fog light. Don't work anymore and the light doesn't appear on the dash. Bulb? or fuse? Or both fog bulb and bulb on dash?! oh dear hehe I know the bulb on the dash for the front fogs has gone, but I get worried over the idea of taking the dash apart. Easy? Difficult?
the wiring was there on the handles of the UK car we broke so i'd say its a universal thing. Theres a microswitch activated by the handle which illuminates the door lock and ignition barrel. Shouldnt be hard to change the bulbs.
Oooh sounds good And Tim yes flashing would be very cool! I have no idea how, but good idea
Hmm only thing is if there's a microswitch, then they only come on when the door handles are lifted? The ignition barrel lights up when I unlock doors with central locking, so do they not come on when doors unlocked?
Gavroche, how did you do it then? I might have a go if not too bad. If it is tho, i'll take up your offer and leave it to the master Also looks very nice with blue leds!
Mine also comes on when the passenger door handle is lifted... although I can't recall ever seeing the passenger one light up..
Making them flash on arm/disarm, would mean disconnecting them, and wiring to the indicators...
Wonder if superbright LED's would fit in there?

Fuse under bonnet.. R-Fog 15A
also, there is a separate relay, outside the fusebox.. near the battery..

Or you could do the lot... active when handle lifted, flash when arm / dissarm, auto-dim when entered into the car.
Mine is wired up to the microswitch for instant-on when door is locked. Mine also come on for a period like the ACC light when using the remote central locking. As a final touch, mine fade out with the interior light circuit.
All it took was a handfull of diodes, a few resistors, wire and a strip of SMT leds lined up and placed in a long glob of heatmelt glue, then when dry stuck to the inside of the handle with double sided tape. The small control circuit is inside the door.
The only thing mine doesnt do is flash like the side repeaters, but for that I will put in my next revision.... RGB leds.
Led colour will indicate the state of the car. Red (On Door Microswitch Activation) = Locked, Flashing Red = Arming, Flashing Green = Disarming, Blue = Interior Light Mode (Comes on and Goes Off with Interior Light or Door Microswitch when Disarmed).
Aprox cost will be £20 per door. Will involve 1 x 16Fxx Pic Microcontroller, a couple of resistor blocks, and 6 x RGB SMT leds. I'll also make an RGB LED addon to the board that will make the barrel light the same colour as the handles.
Oooooooohhh this sounds better and better each time I'd definately be up for a "Lukes cool" LED door kit also! Sounds really good the way you've got it already though. I think maybe the RGB might spoil it. If you can get it to flash on arming that would be excellent! I love the sound of it dimming also when you're in the car
well, i have got all the parts from RS coming, enough to make 5 kits (1 kit = 2 doors).
The kits will have clip-on cable clips, so no cutting or soldering required. I should have the pic program written over the next couple of weeks, and the kits made up and tested within the month.
I'll be making the RGB kits, but as they are RGB, it will allow you to manually use it like my current version with any colour of your choice.
