Talking Ive got one, im in love, but she is flawed....

(long post warning, and please ignore spelling, just finished off nights and very tired lol)

Managed to get myself a 6 at last, and its completely against my criteria and common sense. But im a bugger for having a play, and this could be a damn good project car, or a brilliant source of parts if i broke her.

She is....

A J plate inport in...... gunmetal grey!!!!!!!
electric mirrors
digital climate control
4WS (im so gonna regret this)
ATX (getting used to this)
about 90k miles on
Mazdaspeed kit (i think)
And the guy reckons its the 2 litre V6

Extras
4 17" alloys with good tires
A spare set of four 17" alloys with good tires (one has a hairline fracture which i may repair myself)
2x stereo's one cd one tape, both fitted at present
Clifford cat 1 immob

Price paid
£650...

Now the problems.
She has some light paint damage and a few bumps, a friend is sorting me out with a bodyshop he used and highly reccomends.
The immob likes to play up, it hasnt for me yet.
And the engine isnt right.
It was ok on the test drive, but after driving it back yesterday, its got pretty noisy, a very tappety sound as though something is knocking.
It was sat for a few weeks, and i may have knocked something off with the couple of blats i gave her.
No visable signs of any problems, but i noticed it is overfilled with oil.
I think (and hope) its a blockage in the block causing starvation, im gonna drop half a pint of deisel into the oil to give the engine a flush, and leave her running for an hour or so. Then drop the oil and replace, as well as the filter.
What sort of oil would be best for a car of this mileage? Im thinking a high quality mineral oil.

General running

God is it different to the vec, the atx is very clumsy (btw whats that little button on the handle under the selector button)
She can take a good few seconds to kick down when floored, but she flys from a standing start.
The 4ws scares the crap out of me, ive overtook in a lane and the steering wheel was drifting. I ended up going in a straight line with the steering wheel at 90 degrees. May disable it for now if possible.
The suspension has been tweeked, she is low, and ive never been in such a rough car with bumps. May soften them up for the sake of the car!

But apart from that, i love it
She isnt perfect but if the engine holds out, i may try to get her up to spec again

Ill get some pics up as soon as i find somewhere to host them.

Pics are http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2257972

I see you like 'em with experience! (jk), as long as the engine noise is the big end or little end going then I can't see she should cause you too much hassle, looks like you might need to get the 4ws checked out though.

Well, glad you eventually got a car... hope it turns out to be a good one.

If I remember correct, the little button is an overdive button.
I think it holds gear longer or something.

Have fun, and keep the 4ws, it's great once you get used to it.
Although, from your description, something sounds amiss.

awesome, love the colour too

but i dont think that is the mazdaspeed kit, but a nice lip kit anyways. nice wheels too.

simply, with all that crap, that would have sold in aus straight away.. you guys are lucky with your cheap cars... that in aus would be worth 5 or 6 grand (almost 3 thousand pounds )

The button does hold it in gear, handy when going up long hills to stop it constantly changing between third and forth and back again, but it is also usefull when a bit of a kick is needed, rather than kickingdown it drops into third and holds it untill you release it, handy for overtaking, hold light comes on on the dash as well.

As said... button is "hold" and does what it says on the tin.. stops it changing up.. (but will let it change back down if needed..

tapping is possibly HLA's and a flush and oil change will help there... use a good quality semi-synthetic and a genuine Mazda filter..

Try to get used to the 4WS.. it will take a while..

My gut feeling is that it's a 2.5... to check, you need to find the engine number, which is down the back of the engine, and is hard to see.. KLxxxx = 2.5 KFxxx = 2.0

The wheels look the dogs

hey nice car man!! i like

welcome to the JSPEC CLUB

to check the 4ws start the car and keep the wheet straight! the back wheels should be straight too, then turn to the left and they should turn to the right,
now turn to the right and see if they turn left.
if not then they need to be alligned

and don't break her!! it all sounds like a good car! and looks like a good car
and u got it CHEAP!

change oil and get mazda oil filter that should fix the problem (tapping)

I think it looks great, love the wheels, not too fussed on wheels as a rule, but think the car colour and the wheels set each other off!!

Think too its a real bargain as well, so what if its a 2l, you still get 170ish bhp as its a J-Spec just not so much grunt as the 2.5l, in any case the engine is lighter so will make up for it@-

You enjoy yourself fiddling with it, thats what makes getting a car like this fun, the satisfaction on fettling it!!

Nice looking beast Trick.

You're in with your new motor and I'm out the insurance company have just written mine off. Paid me off with 1500 but she's not worth restoring the smash has damaged the body panel, bumper, 4ws, rear axle and I now have slow punctures on both rear tyres.

Most other parts are good folks but leave the above parts alone if you come across her

To drop the sump, you have to remove the crossmember under the engine, the sump gasket is stuck on with a special glue.. (according to the bibles)

While you're in there, you can also clean the oil pickup strainer..
