Air Con...again...

Hello,
My air con is fully gassed, the fan comes on and the revs drop, indicating the compressor is functional but the temp doesnt get cold. Can anyone suggest a diagnostic/help please?

Thanks

Neil,

Good to here from you again.

Are the air con lines themselves getting cold when you turn on the a/c?

Hi
It seems that none of the pipes are getting cold. I had a peek in the sight glass too, not much going on in there, no bubbles. Not sure if there should be or not?

Cheers

If the compressor is kicking on and there are no bubbles in the glass the gas should be ok.Unless completly empty then it shouldn't kick on anyway.

Does the air actually change temp when you go from 32c down to 18c?I had a problem with mine that it always blew hot air.The flap wasnt moving in the dash to change the airflow.

When you change the temp you should be able to hear it moving.

with regards to bubbles in the sight glass..

run the A/C for a few minutes.

1. bubbles seen: not enough gas.
2. no bubbles: too much, or correct amount.

have someone turn off A/C while looking at sight glass.

1. stays clear: too much.
2. foams, then clears: correct amount.

If all is fine, you will need to get the pressure tested, both high and low side..
normally this is:
Low: 21-43psi
High: 185-213psi

if it's outside the spec, let me know what the readings are, and I can tell you what is wrong..

1. too much
2. too little
3. air in system
4. moisture in system
5. no circulation
6. expansion valve stuck
7. faulty compressor

Things are ok Neil.

Sounds like it's overcharged. This will presumably stop the evaporator from getting cold (the refrigerant can't evaporate under the excess pressure and simply returns to the compressor as a liquid).

Try leaking some gas from the system (although if R-12 this is a bit naughty) and see if it starts to work. Alternatively if a garage did it go back and get them to do it correctly.

Hi again,

Cheers Ian. Roy, I can hear the servos moving.

After turning off the air con there is no visible activity in the sight glass.....

Cheers
