what does a diagnostic code 11 mean?

what does a diagnostic code 11 mean followed by code 17 and 10, as i have replaced the o2 front sensor(new) and replaced the volume airflow sensor housing (used), but i still get these codes 11-11-17-10.
Could you please advise on how to correct/fix these issues - Alan.

There is no code 11 Alan. I see you have 96 model and this is very interesting, as it seems the later models, 96 > seem to throw this code out when reading them... if there are no codes it does not.

Now as for the 10 ... this could be the indication that it has given you all the codes available and will restart the codes again. You see the codes are given in numerical order, so basically you cannot get a code 10 after a code 17 ... so i would consider it bogus.

If you have replaced the o2 sensor, have you disconnected the battery to reset the ecu and clear the codes ? you have to do this when repair has been done. then drive it for a while and check again.

Oddy.

Hi Oddy
I clear the ecu as they appear on my cel light (everyday) - these codes/problems seem to happen when the engine has warmed up and it does not seem to matter what CAI set up i have on the car ( the common two items are the o2 sensor and the volume airflow housing).
If the only true code is the code 17 is there any way i can check, if the o2 sensor is working, as i had to wire the new one to the mazda connector, as per the instruction supplied with it.

Do you have a CEL set up inside the car to give you real time reports of any errors ? .. if so, do you find it comes on, then goes out, comes on.. goes out etc etc .. if so, then you will find its the O2 sensor reporting a problem but then goes back to working correctly.. mine do this all the time, both the front and back, both are replacements and like you say, are soldered onto the original plug.

If this above is the case then, there's nothing to do. I do find that my O2 sensors hate to cruise, if i be a good boy and cruise along at a steady speed on the motorway, the CEL will come on, if i blast around and do some hard driving on the motorway, it never comes on, have you noticed anything similar ?

Hi Oddy,
I do have a real time CEL built into my rev counter.
I find that if i over rev or drive fast for a period of time the light comes on and go off, and codes 11,11,17,10 have been registered in the memory.
It fustrating when the light comes on every time i drive the car.
I was wondering if i could test/check the o2 sensor in situ and is there any other checks i could carry out.
Alan.

I dont know of any checks to test it, i just put up with the light coming on and going off everynow and then... and occasionally i'll check the codes to ensure its only the O2 sensors that are flagging.

Check the connection of the O2 sensors to the wiring loom. Clear out any muck in the connectors using WD40 or some such, believe me, this does actually make a difference.
