Unidentified Wire on J Spec block

Engine has just had heads removed, both in good condition but a light skimming may be a safe bet.
Then the mechanic (once he had the inlet manifolds off) noticed a wire coming from the middle of the V's with no connector attached. Anyone know what this could be, maybe some some kind of oil sensor?
Assuming that there will be one on the 2ltr with connector attached.
I will try and take a photo and post later.

Sounds like the knock sensor...

Engine will run without, but timing will be a bit retarded for safety, hence the power will be down a bit.

Sounds like the wire for the knock sensor. It should have had a connector attached.
Some are connected near the tb and some are connected the other side by the filler for the engines coolant.
Have a look for any connectors that seems to have a wire missing.

Lol, I would, but I suspect if its not a connector already on the engine, then the connector is still attached to its counterpart in a car which is now big cube of scrap metal, or it came off in transit.
Will I be able to use the one from the 2ltr without too much trouble?

You should have no problem. Just need to find the connecting wire on your wiring harness.I assume you still have the 2.0 in the car so just find the existing wire and trace it back.

I'm assuming it will be easier to locate the wire once everything is disconnected and engine out, rather than trying to root around and find the harness with the wire that leads back to the block, or remove the heads from the 2.0 engine and trace the wire back that way!

Two wires which are connected to the round thin in the middle of the block.

Might be better to see which side the connection is on on the car before you put the other engine back together. Then you could route the wire the right direction.
When I exchanged a 1.8 for a 2.5 in an mx3 it was a pain to get to the wire and thread it back through.I think most are at the tb end.But it's easy to find as it's the only wire coming up from under the intake.

James .. it has a grey connector on the end of it and it mounts on the side of the throttle body, you should be able to see it on the 2.0 just next to the black IAC cylinder sticking out of the bottom of the throttle body.

Oh .. also skimming of the heads .. be carefull about how much you have taken off. It can affect the mechanical timing.

Thanks Paul, looked at the engine lifting bracket, found the wire exiting from the block and traced it back to the mounting bracket on the side of the tb.
Spoke to the mechanic, assures me the skimming will only be just enough to clean up the head.
