MX6 manual-New air filter questions

hello again chaps, just a quick one, i think, I am trying to sort my air filter out, but before I go removing the engine, suspension back box and god knows what else, I thought I had better get a few things clear. Ok, first, this is my current temporary setup...

as you can see, I have removed the original ait intake thing that sits on top of the radiator, but I still have it..read on...

The filter pictured is the one I want to use, but I have been told i need to get that filter away from the engine to some cooler air. I have ordered 1 single aluminium pipe with a 45Degree bend in it thats supposed to fit these filters, so that the filter ends up "down there" somewhere towards the gap you can see in the pic. Is this correct and do I need to refit the air intake jobby that sits on top the radiator?? Do I also need a heat shield for the filter? I am aware that water can cause a few issues, so whats the best thing to do with this? I want maximum protection for the filter, whilst gaining some performance or at least ensuring I am getting cold air to the engine and not 1000degree heat, does anyone have a pic i could look at?I think what I am getting at is do I need to sort a middle of the road length to the pipe, so that it snot too low, not too high??also, where should the exisiting vaf end up, leave where it is and stick the luminium pipe to it-filter on the end?? I have checked the forums, but cant see anything that relates to the image i have in my head...hope you telepaths out there can help!!

cheers guys!

Hi Clive..

The VAF stays where it is.... you can replace the rubber elbow, between it and the TB for an alloy pipe, which many do.

The other pipe goes down the front, and some have another bend which takes it under the battery area..

If you are concerned with water ingress, then there is a small device that goes in between the VAF and filter, but high up, and is a safety valve that will open, should the filter get submerged.. the engine will suck air through the valve, rather than water from the filter..

There are plenty of pics on here of various CAI setups..

thanks John,

Looks like I need a fw more bits then, I think I am short of one elbow, and I will check out this device you speak of to protect from water ingress...thanks!
