engine rebuild

me again.

was just wandering, hwo much would an engine rebuild cost, and is it worth it? I am just thinking about the future thats all, my engine is fine, 94k miles and running fine, but if I keep the car for a few more years, might be nice to get it running like new..?? or are these engines reliable enough.,?

being a v6, most garages are going to ask the earth to get this done. If you did want to do it, I'd do it myself if I had the time and inclination to do it. Personally I'm not going to bother rebuild mine, as far as I know the engines are pretty bomb-proof anyway and as long as you look after it, it should cause any issues.

I have a KLZE in bits at the moment and I am planning in the near future to rebuild it with standard compression / high strength internal parts.

I am going to do it myself, with some support from third party garages for head skimming and cleaning etc.

These engines will do 100,000's of miles before needing a rebuild as they are that good (if looked after)
If you do get it rebuilt, you're looking into four figures easy as a bill, be £100's for parts alone, I've been there with my Charade, makes a difference at the end result, but not while its being done!!

right thanks guys, I wont have a rebuild, not ever, doesnt sound worth it, not if the engines are good for as long as you say, I am happy with that!
for four figures, I would just buy another motor
cheers!

funny you should ask that just had mine done.

cost £2354.67p now have the task of running it in
just waiting on a reply from the dvla as to how i stand on the odometer reading and future mot's.

everything has been changed, the nos has not been refitted
as it adds 38% to the premium a nice man at admiral told me.
apart from that the only "old" bits are the block, heads and manifolds but they have been clean and polishes where needed.

Got the dubious honour of it costing more for me, £2,638, (did involve new cylinder head and clutch though) me too now running it in, 500 miles and looking good, no loss of oil and water just had to be topped up once.

As the cylinder head has been changed and that the engine number is on the head on Charades I too will have to inform the DVLA I believe, even though the rest of it is original!!

Did do it wonders though, boost comes on earlier and is much much faster!!!

Mine is coming up to 190000 miles on the original engine and autobox and is still going strong.

Gareth, when you get a response from the DVLA can you post it up as I had to change my odometer and the new one has 30000 less on the clock. My local garage told me that as long as I keep hold of the old one it should be OK, when the MOT is due it will show as a discrepancy and the DVLA will get in touch.
Be good to know if thats right or do I need to tell the DVLA first

Not sure if you can, or if it is physically possible, but what about altering the milage, sort of "clocking" in reverse?

mx6si ,just write to the DVLA and tell them then you are covered, each case is differant they are pretty good now at responding in a timely manor , better that than being nicked.

I think you can even e mail them now.
