fuel question please help me sort this out

im getting fed up with trying to sort this problem out.

i think my starting trouble might be fuel pump, cars going great but does not start when u let it cool down after a run, fine when hot and cold.

can u hear the fuel pump when u turn ignition on? and could fuel filter make this problem, and would i have to put in a propper mx6 fuel filter or would a plastic in line one b ok

as far as the fuel filter goes - have you seen the size of the fuel filter on a 6? Definetly original is best - and not too expensive.

Poor starting after cooldown? When was it last serviced? Could it be a plugs/leads problem? When you say "it does not start - does it turn over and fail to catch or what? More info will helpus solve the problem.

Grahame, I think Matt has been on the merry go round on this one in terms of describing the problem and not getting anywhere. Matt, have you asked a decent mechanic to have a look at it?

Ben.

just put on a universal fuel filter but not happy it fits very well, seems very sluggish starting all the time with this one.

i thought maybee fuel pumps getting tired

dude this sounds like your head gasket or cracked block, theres coolant in your cylinder and when your motor is warm not enought air/fuel is going in.i had the same problem on quad4 motor

no way ive just driven on a 4 hour journey with it, its not that serious, if u acelerate a bit it starts right up, not that, the cars always had this problem even before i put this engine in. its runnig great, its as if the fuel pressure drops, its alright if u let it cool down, and its alright when its hot, oils very clean waters perfect.

I doubt this is electrical, or down to the fuel supply..

This sounds more like an air leak, or a problem with the BAC valve... possibly the coolant hoses to the valve body...

You say it will start if you open the throttle a bit.. and that is the clue I think...

is that under the throttle body, is there a chance the water pipes might be the wrong way round, i take it its the ones that go to the heater, or a new throttle housing

yep starts loads better if u push throttle down

Yes, under the TB... are the pipes partially blocked by any chance?
The water heats the valve, and controls the cold start device.. (like a choke)

It may not be a pipe, although it usually is.. cracked, split etc..
could also be where the pipes connect.. and also check the rubber elbow between the TB and VAF very carefully... another common problem for cracking.

the rubber pipe to vaf is perfect, i think the bottom water pipes are good as they run in to the heater, is it worth getting a throttle housing

I would be tempted to "borrow" one.. sure someone could help..

If it cures the problem, then you know what to do.. offer to buy it, or find another..
