curious - possible sale

Hi guys,

Its getting to that time where I get itchy feet and want a change in vehicle. Thinking about selling the MX6 to buy an MX3 or V6 Mondeo. How much do you think my Mazda is worth? Its got 17" OZ alloys, its in good condtion for age, Noble green with Tinted rear half. Its had a service, all new tyres and new ish rear and new mid exhaust. Everything works but Air Con needs re gassing (as far as I know, its never got cold since I had it). There are two bad points I know of about the car, and they are annoyances to me. First i steh uppoer alternator bracket bolt-its coem loose and de threaded-so rattles about a bit at low revs-but tis been like this for well over 15 months! The other is the rattle from the back, common problem as far as I know, and I think its teh rear brake calipers rattling (it stops when I apply the brakes) Its leather interior too, oh and its pretty low too. No Idea what its worth but I paid £1600 for it when I bought it.

Any ideas what it might be worth now?? HOPING for £1000, i dont expect much more...

Yup I agree. Age, mileage, spec, UK or j-spec, leather or cloth, service history etc etc are all going to swing it from a base price £400-500 to £1000+

I would say that unless its an R plate with low miles in mint nick, 4 figures is a difficult price to get at the moment.

Pics help too, especially as theres more guests than members usually browsing round here.

Just one more thing

V6 mondeo! WTF is that all about? Isnt that classed as obscene language on here?

Mx3 yes (especially with mods), but a Mundaino, i'm sorry but that would never ever get me to sell a 6.

Well I was pleased with the £850 I got for mine. Think £1000 is pushing it. Our cars sound quite similar apart from the alloys where i had speelines and no tints, but I had no rattles. It's worth what you can get for it mate. I'd personally keep it if I had the choice.

I agree mondeo...........yuck but saying that I'm driving a pile of junk as a replacement but only due to needing a workhorse.

Look at me saying "our cars" you don't own it any longer dave (note to self)

Dave

ouch apologies about the mondeo. erm. i aint never had one, but the st24/220s look pretty nice I thought..am i mad?

anyways, I agree, car probably not worth £1000, and with that in mind, for what it would cost to tart up I will probably have ot keep it a bit longer. besides, we already have three cars, and the other half says I cant have another one.

as for mileage etc, its 98k, leather (great condition except for usual drivers side boulster thingy) and its a P plate. Dont worry, I am still a heeeuge fan, I was just curious about value, although I am feeling pretty sheepish about the mondeo..i really did think they were nice....

Unfortunately, with the st24 and st220's the body kit and alloys dont mask the fact that underneath its just a mondeo. Its a similar story with other repmobiles that are made to look sporty to attract the "if I drive a sporty car does that make me young still?" over 30's guy.

Vauxhall tried it with the Vectra Supertouring and got a similar result. The car is designed to run a 1.8/2.0 engine under 150bhp so sticking 200+ in it and adding a few bolt on mods doesnt suddenly turn it into a touring car.

A fast car needs to be designed to go fast to start with, there are a few exceptions, 1 of which my friend is considering when he sells his Cavalibra Turbo, which is an Accord type R, which doesnt seem to have the same stigma attached as other euroboxes and this is reflected in the prices.

Personally, there isnt much that could prize an mx6 out of my hands (other than the w**kers that stole mine) but eventually I would find myself wanting more power/performance and with the limitations the 6 has at gaining bhp I would have to venture into the turbo market. Main choice would be a Gen 3 RX7 or Skyline R33 if the budget would stretch, but the kids need to leave home before that happens.

On the whole, I would say the mx6 is the best value for money sports car out there at the moment. VW Corrados look too 90's now and have lost their exotic appeal but VR6 prices are still double that of a good mx6. Calibra's are now laughed at as mint condition, unmodified ones dont exist and the prices reflect this (little more than a mk3 cavalier).

Stick with the 6, spend the £ and make it special again.

christ. am getting old. I will probably stick with the 6 now. my problem is that I have always bought a new car every 2 years ish, so its just that time again. I have to admit, there hasnt been many cars (within my budget) that make me feel the way I do about my 6, of course I would love an RX7 or an R33, but at the moment that wont happen. I think i will just sort a few niggles out on mine first and then see how I feel, besides I just recently got a Fourtrak for a bit of offroading, so that should keep my wandering mind occupied for a while (brilliant 4x4 by teh way-drives like a tractor, but wicked off road erm..like a tractor) thanks for the words guys, its good to have someone put things into perspective for you!

Hey windy, your buddy with the cav tub, he on the CTOR (cavalier turbo owners Register) site by any chance ?

clivjoo - Personally, I think if you loose that particular 'thing' about your car, then its time to move on. You will only stop looking after it like you did, a good clean polish wax turns into a quick hose down and a flash of soap suds. all these things start to show on the car, and so its appeal and value will drop. The ST220's are a sought after motor and at times are hard to come by. A comfortale car that can cart the family about, and a toy when your alone. You still get to keep the v6 grunt and sound too..

Each to thier own an all that ...

Paul.

You must have read my post too quick Paul, my mate has a cavalibra (calibra) Turbo, not an actual Cav.

His Cally is a rare one. 1996 N reg, Met Purple, 80k on the clock, totally standard, cream leather, engine rebuild 1000 miles ago, unmolested, he drives it like a vicar most of the time. He's not really an internetter or diy man either so it goes to the garage for everything coz he cant do it himself and hes not a member on any forums.

thats part of my worry-losing interest in the car, although I just started driving it again after a week of driving the Fourtrak and it put an instant smile on my face. Each to their own yes, I dont know too much about them but I like the ST24's/ST220's, but we shall see. Speaking of washing, mine hasnt been washed for well over a month, I think I had better get that sorted....
