i know lol sorry, i seem to have hit a stumbling block! i am going to hav eot try and raise the engine slightly to get this drill bit in, i need to drill out the lower bracket hole, not even sure i can raise the engine up by much tho.

**ok, go the mount bracket on. 1 bolt screwed in nice and easy, one of the helicoiled was a bit tough, and the other i had to add a hex bolt as the bolt was a tad too long, and that also was tough to screw in, but hopefully they will be ok. I would have loctite'd the bolts, but my loctite, which i had this morning, has gone missing, very weird.

i am not trying to peice everything back together...! getting there guys,....

update!

ok, good and bad.

got the engine mounts back on etc and the engine is now support by teh brackets (jacks removed). I now need to torque wrench some of the bolts, but need a long socket for soem of the bolts, i am going to buy these asap. only problem NOW is when i put the key in the ignition, nothing happens an dmy alarm system no longer triggers the central locking and the alarm was just playing up. NO idea whats gone wrong, but i have had the battery disconnected for a few days while i work, and i think the engin emihgt have got a bit wet during this time. Is there anything i need to check? i just want to ensure everything is ready for when i get the belts on so i can start the engine....

hope you can help!

***just thought, car hasnt been used now for probably a month, could it simply be the battery is dead? central locking works though,.,,,

Sounds like your alarm needs reseting Clive .. is it an immobiliser type too ? ie. engine will not start ?

its an immobiliser/alarm yes, but before all this work, you would still get the lights on the dash and fan on to indiciate the immobiliser is active, not when i put the key in the ignition and turn, nothing, no lights. I cant start the engine yet so havnt tried (belts to fit first), its just i though even if the battery was low, i would get dash lights at least...

I would try charging your battery first then see what happens.

this should do the trick... look in the bottom right corner of the diagram for key on each number setting .. be it kgs, ftlbs, in-lbs etc .. If you are having trouble reading the numbers, right click and copy the picture to desktop and then open it in viewer and zoom in

eyup. right, pretty much done i think now. go tthe engine mount bracket on, all belts fitted, water up and battery replaced. started car up and it fired first time and strong, ran very smooth at first, no more engine rattle and vibration like what i was getting BUT i do need to fine tuen it as idle isnt perfect.

All I need to do now is torque up the engine mount bolts (borrowed an expensive torque wrench off mi mate) and tax it then i am back on the road.

no doubt i will have a few other things to fix over time, but for now, i achieved what i needed to, mostly thanks to you guys and your brilliant advice, patience and good humour. Many thanks especially to John, Gerry and Paul!

It's a great feeling Clive isnt it

I think you will agree that the MX6 isnt that hard a car to work on and the biggest problem is the lack of space.

The job you have tackled is probably the most difficult because there is no work program to follow, you have had to work out what to do as you went along. I tip my hat to you

I also think this is the only way to keep these cars on the road. If you put them into a garage every time something goes wrong you will very soon exceed the value of the car and that is why so many are scrapped.

I hope you use the experience you have achieved and encourage others to 'HAVE A GO'

Look forward to seeing you at some future events

Mark

Well done Clive!
How much money has this cost you in total and how much do you think you have saved by doing it yourself?
Of course the feeling of self satisfaction of a job well done is worth all the effort you have put in to it. Believe me when I say that if you can do something like this you can do any job on any car...
