Thanks guys, I am well chuffed, but again I couldnt have done it without you lot, no way.

as for cost, I think I have spent about £150 ish, but due to me not thinknig about it I had to spend a furthur £75 on a new battery (forgot to disconnect) but it turned out the battery I did have wasnt correct anyway.

Most of this money was spent on tools, so these will get re used. I had to buy the helicoil kit plus extra helicoils, a new socket set, screw extractor kit, 5 drill bits, angled drill adapter, new bolts/nuts and extra sockets. I have saved a fortune no doubt, most garages had quoted me £500-£800 to have the engine out and re threading, so thats a big saving. All I hav ehad to sacrifice really is time and no use of it, but i am lucky as I have a second car the Fourtrak.

I have to un sorn it now, so will be sorting that next week, then I can take for a proper run. I had it idling today for approx 20 mins, and will be running it for a bit tomorrow as well.

I have to say, there arnt many other jobs I can think of I would have a go at now after all this, i have gained a lot of confidence in doing this, and I have learned a lot too. I have to say a furthur thankyou to John too, as he came over to my house to help me, he got wet through that day, and did a grand job getting me into a position where I can do the work, if it wasnt for him i would have scrapped the car!

Seriously over the moon for you Clive...

I'm glad I came over that day, and gave you a good kick up the arse, so to speak..
I looks like it worked wonders... and you must feel on top of the world at the moment..

Congratulations... another car saved from being scrapped..

Brilliant news Clive. I'm chuffed as hell you got it all sorted at last. Very well done that man. Hope you get many trouble free miles out of the car now. But as you say, you'll probably get a lot of satifaction out of fixing any new issues that may arise yourself.

yes John, you really did help me that day, it was what I needed because I would have just given up (as you probably started to notice) but the help and confidence boost was all I needed!

It just goes to show though that for example a cambelt change CAN be done with lifting the engine out, plenty of space once you raise that engine using a jack.

Next job for me is breaks, they dont seem as eager or effective, so in a few weeks its off with the wheels and i am going to check the master break cylinder too...!!look out for more posts for help!!

What you have done so far, is not an easy task... the brakes are so easy in comparison..

If you can't do the brakes, then you shouldn't be walking the streets alone..

Seriously, it will be a walk in the park.. I have all confidence.

Fantastic news Clive .. .. should be proud of what you have achieved considering your self confessed lack of knowledge or experience before getting to grips with this task ... The brakes will be a doddle

Conclusion

well, taxed car today, and have just got back from my first drive since this all began and YES! All is well!! OK, car is different to what it was before. It is smoother, MUCH MUCH quieter (but i did change the filter...) and very smooth, hard to describe, everything engine wise seems more rock solid, more confident! I am so chuffed! of course I have other niggles to fix (squeeky\scraping sound from front end brakes i think, no biggie and steering needs re aligning again) other than that, tip top! engine warmed up nicely, radiator fans came on when we got back, so I am assuming the waterpump is working and the system is circulating as it should (temp gage below half all the way so...)

the only hting I couldnt suss was why i could change tracks on my stereo, which of course has totally reset itself! I dont like Clarions anyway, so thats going up for sale...

All i can say guys is a big fat huge thankyou for your help and patience, i wont forget, and if we ever meet, i will be buying you a drink.
