Update on BaBaKa's Clunk and Knock

Evening all ....

I thought that I would remove everything from the boot this evening and take BaBaKa for a long spin. The spare wheel is not loose and I also removed the wheel spanner.

I checked the loud clunk that comes when I accelerate to the right out of the drive where I live and despite having my foot on the footbrake ( as advised by Nick Clulee), the noise is still there and I could not detect anything on the brake pedal. I am sure that Nick is correct however and the new O/S/F motor factor caliper that I had fitted is causing the noise.

I was out in London last night and when I drove over some road that was a little corrugated, the knocking noise is getting worse from the rear, hence my removing all the junk from the boot.

I suspect the rear droplinks and will get a pair of High Quality ones from Probestore BUT it may not be them. The exhaust is fine and is not touching the chassis.

But it needs a real expert like Nick Clulee to check her out and I can't wait to see him in September and get these annoying faults rectified.

On normal roads BaBaKa is silent and Oh Boy " She don't half go still " ....

Here are the relevant posts from the very long thread of mine:

Hi Guys,

Just called Nick Clulee and he is as mystified as we are.

As he said " Nothing is loose underneath according to my MOT guy " the the car is not dangerous but suspects it might be the suspension struts or shock absorbers which are all the original bits from new.

He said if you can live with it then fine otherwise I will need to throw money at BaBaKa to cure the problem.

Of course, it will get worse but as I only do 3 to 4K a year in her, time is on my side.

I will run her up to Sheffield fairly soon and he can also have a look at the rear drop links which are cheap and easy to do.

Have a great weekend folks.

Paula

Spoke to Nick Clulee just now after he has read all the posts on this long thread.

Phew !!!

He suspects brakes or possibly a driveshaft now although he is leaning more towards the brakes and the need for ( I think I got this right ) a shim kit.

I heard a light clicking sound when I drove slowly out of the flat's drive into the road this morning and he suggested that I have my left foot on the footbrake when I do this next time and see if the noise goes.

Will report back later to you all but I will be driving up to see him in early September when I am less busy.

Paula

PS. I told Nick that when I go round and round in circles on full left or right lock at Tesco's Car Park, the driveshafts are still silent. Perhaps I should try it out on less than full lock in both directions !!!

Hi Paula sorry to hear you still having problems with BaBaKa .
i get a clunking noise from my rear suspension on right side only on rough and uneven roads like you,so i took of rear wheels to investigate i checked left side which was all nice and secure and tight but when i checked the right side i found that i could move the Anti roll bar drop link with my hand so this is my problem.
I had clicking noise on front which was my cv joints which was quite loud so if yours only light sound could be a rattling sound so check your shims and also worth checking your anti rattle springs on your brake pads.
