Mx6 insurance advice

Hi all
I recently changed my standard air filter box for a cold air induction kit as my standard box wasn't in a good state big gaps and plastic broke, the cai kit was only £40 delivered on ebay so seemed like a good replacement.
Yesterday i informed my insurance company they told me i had 7 day to but back on my standard box or i would have to cancel my insurance so was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent insurance company for modded cars as most company's that i called wanted £150 extra for this simple modification.

well, I am with Swift, and I am fully comp, and they allow air filter upgrades, alloys to value of £1000, lowered, tinted windows etc etc I was amazed when I read it, so stuck with them. £290 fully comp. I had spent years without mentioning it, turns out they allowed it anyway.

I looks like I slightly mis read, but heres what they do and dont, I fit in the DO's now!

have you tried Direct Line,? I WAS with them, they were quite good.

We will also cover cars with

Air Conditioning
Alloy wheels less than £1000 in value
Any modification solely due to disability
Audio system less than £1000 in value
Bull Bars
Satellite Navigation (Permanently fitted)
Sunroof
Tow Bar
Stainless steel exhaust
Roof racks, bars, bike racks, or top boxes
Professionally converted to LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas)
We will not cover cars with

Alloy wheels £1000 or more in value
Audio system £1000 or more in value
Bodywork (Air dams, Side skirts, etc)
Darkened windscreens or driver & passenger windows
Decorative internal or external neon lights
Internal trim (Seats, Rally harness, etc)
Performance Enhancement of any kind (e.g. Chipped engine)
Roll Bars or Roll Cage
Large or medium spoiler or whale tail
Altered Suspension (not due to disability)
Induction Kit
Change to original paint work (unless to repair a car) or an addition of armoured film
Any breach of Road Traffic Act or Construction & Use regulations

my car isnt lowered anymore, but does have aftermarket alloys but they are less than £1000, my darkened windows are rear half not windscreen. It doesnt mention filters, but I put mine back to stock anyway recently.

If they dont like it, tell them to shove it and go else where.

I did try direct line was £300 but when i told them i had fitted cai kit it went up to £450 so might try to refit plastic standard box back on i have to get the glue and filler out to patch it up.

For modified cars the 5 companies I know of are:
Herts Insurance Co. (I'm with HIC as they gave me a £250 discount for being in this club!!)
Adrian Flux (Wouldn't cover me)
Sky Insurance (Also wouldn't cover me)
Performance direct (Close second)
Allen + Allen Group (Couldn't get hold of!! always engaged)

I ended up paying £1175 this year fully comp with pretty much any mods I want.

^ That premium is insane!

My MX6 cost (converted to pounds) around 276 per annum for comprehensive cover.

Mods such as CAI are not a problem. Only turbo and that would be more about acceptability and age as apposed to an additional premium.

I use Elephant. Cost £20 for my induction mod with them. They let you have up to 6 mods listed. each costing slightly different.
