hey, friend has a renault espace, and having problems. the car seems to conk out while driving, and the stop light appears on the dash. its been into renault a few times and they keep fixing something but then does it again. now they saying its the enjectors..
Any idea what they have changed so far? I spent a whole load of money going back and for to the dealers with peugeot 406 had loads replaced but still problem persisted would just stop now and again and sumetimes jerk and spit as if no fuel. Took it to an auto electricians who said it was the 02 lamda sensor, replaced and fixed the issue. But it could be a number anyone of a number of things, coil pack, injectors as stated, fuel pump, dizzy. My advice would be to get it looked at by someone other than the dealer for a start.
We have a Renault Scenic and in the last 18 months its fried 2 coil packs. Renault decided that the best place to fit the coil packs is to bolt them straight onto the top of the rocker cover so they can soak up all the lovely heat.
1 packed up so it ran on 2 or 3 cylinders so it was replaced then the other fried itself and the 2 HT leads so had to replace that a few weeks ago.
Its a good car to drive, just so badly thought out and put together, the front wings are plastic for god sake!
What age? I know that older shape Espace models had problems with cutting out, early to mid 90's models. I can't really comment on later models post 2000. Used to work for Renault about then.
Two 5 TS's ( one of which I had converted in 1977 to a Renault 5 Alpine nee 5 Gordini ) and two factory 5 Gordini's.
Awesome cars but some aspects of their design was typically French.
I am valeting Richard's daughter Sarah's Renault Megane while she, her partner and the two kids are abroad and I noticed that has plastic front wings.
Good idea, I feel, as the will not go rusty and saves front end weight.
Take care and hope your trip to Boro goes well.

Well i certainly wouldn't be going down that route and it sounds stupid expensive. A new engine could be got and fitted for less than that. My guess is coil pack or lamda which is one hell of a lot cheaper route to try. Like said before get it to someone other than the dealer, guessing its going to be electrical rather than injectors myself.
if they replaced parts that didnt resolve the problem there should be no charge as this clearly isnt sorting the fault, just guessing then charging the customer for the privelidge. You want a refund for the work done so far, or get them to refit your old bits. Call Trading Standards if they dont.
£1800 for injectors is a joke, plain and simple. Injectors dont need replacing after 70k, you can have them cleaned. You could buy another Espace for that.
What engine is it, petrol/diesel, size etc?
When our coil packed up it would run ok to start with, but when warmed up it would jerk/splutter and then run like a bag of spanners. This was also the case on our Vauxhall omega that had a crank and cam sensor fault, same symptoms but was also a bitch to start.
Personally, i think its electrical, could be something simple like dizzy cap/rotor arm or ignition like dizzy/coil OR it could be a sensor problem. Trouble is that if you keep taking it to Renault they are just going to keep taking your pants down. If you took it somewhere independant they are more likely to be thorough, rather than Renault mechanics who are likely to want to use repairs done to other cars as a guideline to sorting this one.
I've seen it before, when we got our scenic there was a hell of a noise coming from the gearbox area. My missus got all upset and took it to renault for diagnosis and they said that it "sounded" like a coupler on the driveshaft has come off and would need new driveshafts and possible gearbox. My missus got very upset as she'd spent every penny getting the car then a Renault employee came out to her in the car park. He took it up the road and back and told me his missus has one. Soon as he drove it he said "theres too much vibration in the car" and that it shouldnt shake like that. Opened the bonnet and the front engine mount had snapped, spotted it in 30 seconds.
Told her to take it to Tanvics and they replaced it for £100, job done.
I had two Citroen BX's (TRS and a '89 MKII GTi) and they had a load of plastic panels (bonet &boot etc) and I always expected that to be duplicated in cars but seldom seen it myself
