back in the UK 3220 miles trip

hi guys back in the uk now, after 3220 miles to france and back in the 6.

all went very well, great car to do the trip, got lots of looks to.

however the aircon went, which made driving in the far south quite uncomfortable, but still fun around the bends.

1 thing i noticed is that (on mine) the sun roof is very loud over 90 mph, and over 110 the shock n springs dont feel so solid.

at 120, its reving at 5.6 k, not sure how much higher i could go, but it holds a steady 110 no worries

the drive seems a bit heavier and clunkier now, and i think a front driver side ball joint has gone, cause theres some slight knocking (slight)

i really think replacing all shocks with new sports ones will improve the drive alot, so i think thats the next thing ill do. also going over cobbled roads really made the car vibrate

any suggestions on nice reasonably priced shocks n springs? that are firm yet smooth out the ride like how a more modern car feels?

im gonna work out mpg of the whole trip, and fuel costs and post it up at some point.

cheers.

Are you sure your in the right car club

I fancy a drive to the South of France in the 6 myself.
We have the use of an apartment just outside St Tropez. We went down a few years ago and incorporated the Monaco F1. The drive up that coast road is fabulous.

that st tropez road is hell on the holiday season tho, alot of belgiuns, netherlands and north french travelling down there.

ill work mpg out once i get all the receipts together.

i quick question....

when im in 1 or 2 gear and decrease from the accelerator (say, in traffic, or slowing down) my 6 jerks a bit, not really big ones, but kinda un smoothly. if i press the clutch in its obviously fine, and when i release the clutch and slowly let it drive its fine, just when its slowing down.. is this normal?

cheers.

Sounds like a really good holiday. I plan to (at some point) drive to Italy to the village where my Nona (grandma) lives, but not in one go, more like over a few days like a european trip.
What was the total cost including everything? I need to start saving once I'm back in the black.

I've just been looking into kyb struts and the best deal seems to be £377 delivered from USA for 4 struts AND 4 35mm lowering springs. The springs work out really cheap when compared with just getting the struts on they're own.

i havent worked fuel out yet, but itll be somewhere around £550 - 600. ferry from dover to calais was £80 return. camp sites are from 12 euro - 20 euro. and really good in france. we stayed in the champagne region and then provence.

Here's the link. It's one of the many things on my to do list but I'd say it's just after getting tyres for my RX-8 alloys (they're around £500 so it'll be a while).
I thought about coilovers but I want a fun road car not a track beast that hates roads. My friend has coilovers on his 323f and they're really hard, great handling wise but he had to slow well down for any sort of bump.

In dream land I'd like some actively adjustable struts so I can hit a sport button to harden them up, maybe make the outside shocks stiffen when I steer fast round a corner to fight any body roll. Best of both worlds.

Rob, what size tyres do you need. I can get tyres from Neil on Mazdamad dirt cheap. He brought me 2x Continental 225/45/17's over this weekend, for £20 each, almost new.

Hi Wheely,

Welcome back to the UK....

Have a look at this thread when you have a chance, it's good fun and there are links to Pampelonne Beach in St Tropez where I used to go sometimes in the late 70's till the late 80's.

http://www.mx6.com/forums/uk-lounge/...e-topless.html (Would you sunbathe topless?)

I used to stay here just outside Frejus in a mobile home similar to this one.

Private Mobile Home for hire on Pin De La Legue in Frejus South of France - Ref:512

DOMAINE DU PIN DE LA LEGUE

I loved the drive down thru France in all sorts of car that I have owned from two Renault 5 Gordini's, my specially built 1977 Renault 5 Alpine to my 1981 Red LHD Renault Alpine A310 V6 that I imported new into the UK that August.

In 1982 before I sold the Alpine, on the way down the Autoroute du Soleil past Chalon, I had a wonderful convoy going with a blue French registered Alpine A310 and a white German registered Alpine A310.

Very patriotic....

We just picked each other up on the road and cruised at a high rate of knots in the outside lane .... Awesome fun.

Alpine A310 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claire, Paul Jean and I are hoping to head down there in two year's time but we are going by Eurostar to Paris or wherever and then the rest of the way to Frejus.

We will hire a car locally which works out far cheaper I feel, and three in BaBaKa plus all our luggage would make it rather tight inside....

Take care

Paula

That's some trip and gives an insight into the reliablity of MX6's

I'd love to do a trip into France and Switzerland (Switzerland partly for the missus, she loves the country, me for the roads.). Sadly, it won't be this year
