Just started to get a banging noise when turning the steering wheel , particularly when at stand still, first thought was OMG its the power steering rack. I jacked up the front and turned the wheel and can feel a grumbling noise coming from the top of both struts. Semi relief at least its not what i first thought.... Anyway I sprayed some WD40 and its seems to be quiet again ,but i guess it will come back......Has anyone had this problem and is it best to get the new bearing from Probe store.....
On a lighter note just got back from visiting the Eifal regeion in Germany, half way between the nurburgring and the Mosel. I haven't been to Germany for a long time and man are their roads top class, even the really minor roads in the forest, very smooth and they seem to use fine grade asphalt No Pot holes, and we noticed that when they dig up the road they don't just fill the bit that was was dug up, they resurface the whole road. So whats our excuse the roads around here are appalling apparently the hard winter and too much salt, yea right...
PS Didn't see one 6 the whole time, from home to the tunnel, France , Belgium, Germany and back....... whats happening are they all dieing!!!!!!
When I used to drive across different countries in Europe, our roads were well known for their " Billiard Table " smoothness.
Too many high paid admin/management people in councils ( Local Government ) is much of the problem here in the UK and not enough people or funds to do the actual work no matter what it is.
Same in Central Government.
My late Dad used to say " Jobs for the Boys " .....
This country eh?
Even back in the late 70's and 80's, I found the roads in Northern Europe were excellent except some French roads but even they are much better now.
That is why French cars used to have supple suspension !!!
Take care and welcome back to Blighty....
Paula
PS. Yep our lovely cars are getting scarcer by the day ....

Hi Mate
This is a common problem with our cars, the bearings get wet and full of dirt. Mine has done it for years, but it will not effect the steering in any way, so I thought I would just leave it until I need to get the strut out. Probestore sells all the bits.

92 Red, 100k mint, new gearbox, clutch, flywheel, RS Decat, 18" MVK's, Green stuff pads, DVD twin screens, full CAI, EBC drilled and grooved discs, boat loads of Meguiars, need nitro LOVE IT!
Agreed normally a slight clicking noise when turning the wheel at stationary or very slow speed. It is unlikley to damage your springs its just an annoyance on the 6. (Nylon washers from memory that just lose the greece???)
...............you dont stop laughing because you grow old, ..you grow old because you stop laughing.....
i think i got something like that on the left driver side. its going on the pits today to check.
but i thought its either balljoint or antiroll.... mines more of a knocking on bumps tho.
i say one 6 in red when i was away in france. think ive seen 1 in aberdeen where i stay...
thats what i like tho, the rareness... i actually think ones in the local breakers now, so im going to check...
just think if we keep em going for another 12 years (97 model) theyll become old timers (25 years).. isnt that free road tax.....?
Missed the pair of bearings, went to put a bid and they had been sold as a buy it now for the bid price....dammm it....would have been a bargain...... Adrian
damn, what a shame. I'm not sure how the price compared to Probestore etc but £10 seemed good to me.
Thats the problem tho, you have to be quick on the bargains. I got a brand new Mazda cambelt tensioner for £9.95 that appeared on ebay, they are £100 in probestore!
My 1973 MG MGB GT V8 was bought new in August 1973 but might have been made in 1972.
If you had gotten hold of it's 'birth certificate' then it could have been tax free as you could prove it was made before the date. My girlfriends mum has a VW camper, she sent off for the 'birth certificate' from the factory in Germany where it was made and now it's tax free.
