Questions about espec headlights

Hey just a few quick questions for you about your headlights:

What lights come on when? Day time runners? Are the low beams the projectors, and the high beams the regular lights?

How could I tell if my lights are from LHD or RHD espec mx6? If they are from a RHD, is it worth modifying them for my streets?

Thanks!

Hi mate

E-spec lights house both sidelights and headlights. The two nearer the centre of the car are sidelights, these are low level 5w bulbs. The main beam emanates from the outer bulbs, whilst the high beam (occasional use) also emanate from a similar area to the sidelights. We don't have day-runners over here.

We're RHD in the UK, I don't know if the lights are any different in mainland Europe (LHD) than they are here. I suspect not as cost may have been an issue?

Hope that helps a little. If not, someone will correct me.

rob is correct.

to tell if they are rhd or lhd theres an arrow on the lense in the centre. None of the US lads we have sold them to have never converted them as its not worth it.

you can hook up the sidelights/day lights to run permanent if you want but I dont know how. All i do know is that the normal beam lights are better than the a-spec full beam and they are also perfect for ahid upgrade

Thanks guys... I'm only confused with what side lights are? I found them... the little 5Watt bulbs in there. When do they turn on? I might wire them up to be on as daytime runners, but what is their purpose in the UK?

Also, thank you Hamster for letting me know the arrow trick. Turns out I have RHD especs. [fizzle].

We use the side light at dusk (well most do) or when visibility is limited, fog etc. Sort of like day time runners

Artemis- The espec headlights also have small 194 bulbs attached to the high beam housing. I think they are called city lights. I'm not sure when it comes on when they are wired into an espec car but you could use them as DRL's if you wire the especs onto your canadian mx6.

I bought a set of healights from wollknoil (sp?) and he lives in germany where they drive on the right side of the road as we do. As far as I could tell the lights were the same as any other especs out there but I never installed them on my car so I can't be positive.

Alright, I want to use them as DRL if I can... Although I don't know how if the DRLs on Canadian MX-6s is built right into the main bulbs... I am gonna have to read the electrical diagrams and cook something up.

Thanks for the help boys. Karma'd and I'll let you know how it goes!

It's spelt 'wrong' not 'right'.

Lol. I wish we drove on the left hand side of the road like you guys do. It makes so much more sense.

Hi Chris,

I gather that in the olden days before cars, people on horseback would pass approaching riders/carriages etc on the left hand side.

This is why we drive on the left here in the UK.

There is another reason for this too but I cannot recall it at the moment.

I think that Claire in Wisconsin knows so I will ask her and come back to you.

It might be something to do with holding the reins and whip !!!!

Oh dear, I feel my sadistic side coming out .....

Nite

Paula

PS. What was the name of the country that changed over from driving on the left to the right recently?

Must have caused masses of accidents !!!

I heard it was to do with right handed knights being able to draw their sword on a potential enemy.

Grin

Morning Robert,

Yep dead right and once again you beat me to it !!!!

Claire e-mailed me late last night from Wisconsin, USA and said this:

Hi Paula,

It was practical. Most people are right handed, so you wanted to approach a stranger on the left so you could hold a sword in your right and have a long reach if needed. If you were on the right side of the road and right handed, you would have to reach across your body, giving you about a 2 foot shorter reach! I suspect a pistol was more accurate that way too.

Highway woman Claire

I had better reply to her " What about left handed people ".....

By the way UK members, it's great that more USA,Canadian etc members are coming on to the UK forum.

We should do the same and go on to their forums from time to time as well although there are only so many hours in the day and we all know the very long hours we Brits have to work in order to survive.

Happy days eh?
