Mx6 paint codes

Hi all
I was wondering if Mazda paint codes were changed for later year cars,
As i recently obtained a replacement boot lid for my car of a red mx6 I went to fit today but to my horror i realized that the reds were totally different as my red is a lot deeper,My paint code is su classic red so i was wondering if any one new what year they changed the red colours so i can find the correct colour boot lid.
Many thanks
Dave

Cheers mark
i checked it out but just lists all mazda paint codes i was trying to find out what year they changed the red paint on the mx6 as my paint is a lot deeper red than the earlier models i did find out that the early ones are paint code nu vintage red but mine is su classic red ive seen this colour a lot on mx5's.
So need to decide if it's worth getting new boot resprayed in my colour or have mine repaired,or wait for 1 to come up in the correct colour.
Boot lock was very easy to replace thanks to your drawing.

SU is classic red, but Mazda also did a classic red in A3E (also referred to as Eternal Red) There are also other reds using codes D7, SQ, RH, 15Y, 18U too... The list goes on and on... there's a lot of reds, but as far as I know, no others called 'Classic Red'

It's also worth noting that sometimes the same colour has different names for different regions. For example the metallic blue cars paint is Pacific Blue or Caribbean Blue 4Y depending which continent (Europe/Japan or America) and the Classic/Eternal Red A3E.

I've only ever seen 1 kind of red on these cars and they have all looked pretty much the same, that's not to say there isn't a subtle difference in shades.

It might be cheaper to have the boot lid 'mopped' to restore the colour... of if it's the bodywork at fault, then get that done instead.

You could end up painting the bootlid and still not having a match... which would waste about £150-200.. For about £50-75 you should be able to get the car mopped professionally and see if that does the trick.

There's also the possibility that the car has been repainted once already.

Hi thanks for info but i do have the original 1992 uk brochure for the mx6 and the colour red is vintage red paint code nu and my 1997 mx6 is classic red paint code su as only 1 red was available so sometime between 1992-1997 mazda used a different red paint.
And i don't think mopping will transform vintage red into classic red as they are totally different shades of red.

Hi Dave,

It's worth giving Samm a call and say that Paula with the Mx-6 suggested it.

See: http://www.mx6.com/forums/united-kin...-detailer.html (Fantastic valeter/detailer)

I have the original brochure too which is Vintage Red and I also have the 1996 brochure which says Classic Red.

I think that they changed reds when the wheel size ( with the Speedlines ) went up from 15" to 16" in 1996.

Nite

Paula

PS. Here are fotos of my pal John's two mx6's:

1993 ATX which must have been Vintage Red - NU

and 1997 MTX which was Classic Red - SU and is slightly darker

Hi paula
Many Thanks for info and pics you can definitely notice the difference in the 2 colours as when i fitted the boot you could notice as my paint is a lot darker than the boot as the boot come of a L reg car.
So i will see if i can get the boot resprayed into classic red.
