My 6 is off the road

Well with winter approaching and the rather hairy time I had last year in the 6 ive decided that since its run out of tax its time for it to go away in the garage until febuary. This should give me a chance to look at some of the things that need doing and tidying up that it needs.

In the mean time ive been demoted to driving An Alfa 156 1.8T Spark and an XR4*4 (hmmmmm 4wd action... shame it aint as quick as the maz or handle as well and its a ford).

Heh! less of the ford comments!

My probe is in semi retirement over the winter - it will come out for weekends if it's dry and salt free!

Hopefully I might get some stuff done to it over winter - got a green kit coming plus I might get round to lowering it!

I don't personally like Ford (or Fraud depending on mood) in fact I quite hate them, even though they have a sizeable stake in Mazda.
As for the Probe... different story, it's not built by Ford, rather by a company started in 1984 by Mazda, in Flat Rock, Michigan, Which was Mazda Motor Manufacturing (USA) and now called Auto Alliance International Inc, after it became a joint venture with Ford in 1992. That's 8 years later.. !

It produced the Probe, 626 and MX6, and now produces the 626, and Cougar.

So in reality, The probe is a Mazda, with a Ford badge.. Nice

I use to have a 2ltr DOHC Sierra and loved it it hadled like a dream and soooo much fun with rwd.

Sorry to hear your retiring your car for the winter crusie - my attraction ot the MX6 is that its a v nice car that can be used 365 without any worry. But if youve go the option then i can see your thinking.

So whats the mods for the winter then ?

Super Charger, Custom Turbo install, Body Kit ???

Some of the old Sierra engines where big loads a crap but some were significantly better. I have never owned a Ford so couldn't say but I am not a big fan of the Sierra.

I don't have a garage so I can't put my car away although why I would want to is another matter as it would mean going back to the Tipo (top little car BTW) which isn’t the Mazda. Since putting the new clutch and gearbox in you can sometimes get it to wheel spin in 1st though, which is fun

I am thinking of adding Mark 626GT to my ignore list

Can't put the 6 in the garage (that's full of caterham seven) it has to sit outside on the drive in all year round. Perhaps some of you could comment on car polishes that give the best protection or car covers ?

All at 6's and 7's

I don't think any particular brand will help much as most don't contain much wax these days they just recommend doing it a couple of times over the winter! - a few years ago i used to use simoniz wax on my cars, it was a hard wax in a tin which was a bit labour intensive to apply but the dirt just didn't stick - used to do inside the wheel arches with it too (sad aren't I).

What I'd do would be to apply some wax oil to the bottom of the sills and return lips of the wheel arches to stop the salt getting into any stone chips that are there already.

Car covers - only really good if you're putting the car away dry - not much chance of that this time of year!

Use autoglym super resin polish and then finish it off with extra gloss.

Alternatlvely you could get someone to supagard (tm) your car. This will put on a very hard and shiny coating on the car and should prevent the need to polish it for 3 years. check out www.supagard.co.uk for more info. I will be getting my new car done with this, cos I know one of the agents.

as for mods... well id like to say im fitting a supercharger or something but funds wont allow (unless i get a new job) but there is loads of little things that need sorting and I need to do the Valve steam rubbers so I might get the head ported and polished, possibly a custom cai and maybe some extra mods if i can find the money.
