Code reader

Hi guys (and gals)

Totally off topic, but...

My brother lives in canada and has a ford taurus. He wants to get hold of an obd II reader. short of going out and buying one, does anyone know how to make the bit of kit that reads the codes? He is an electronic engineer so a technical diagram would be fine. I seem to remember that someone had a diagram.

The sort of thing he wants is like the bit of kit that Dave used on my car.

Many Thanks

Jonathan

Many Thanks

I assume you just want to pull the fault codes from the car ?

Theres multiple threads on here describing how to do it for an MX6 - kit wise a 12v led is about it i think

As for specific cars hed do better finding a newsgroup for his car ! and as for making a obd II reader - RAFL - urm NO springs to mind - not unless hes go his on PCB and ASIC development plant to hand !

Or if thats not what your after throw us a better description

Regards

G

Cheers guys

I'll check with him if this is ok.

As for the PCB and ASIC... Is Nortel Networks in Canada a big enough plant?

12v led on the early cars.... OBDII requires a special reader.

Check the diagram above.. should work now.

Digsy.

The code reader I have is nothing more than a jumped up LED

If you remeber when we did your codes I still had to short out the ten and ground and just plugged the reader in to the fen and + (so just used like an led)
