Stuck Indicators
Hi All!!!
I,m hoping someone can solve a problem I.m having with my indicators...
When my ignition is on my indicator lights are staying on,they won,t flash left/right when I use the indicator arm... also if I press the hazard switch they also won,t flash, but when I turn the ignition off my hazards will work then,
When ever I put my alarm on/off the indicator lights flash, and they still work as normal now even though the indicators are,nt working.. can anyone solve this strange problem for me please
thank-you... from a very puzzled mazda owner..
I would go to a scrapyard and get a flasher unit... If you're near to me, you can "borrow" mine, to see if it cures the problem.
If it helps, I could post the wiring diagram, but looking at it, I'd say it's the Flasher unit.

Cheers for the advice John much appreicated,
Unfortunatly for me though I don,t live near you to try your flasher unit in my car, I,m from Newcastle so I,m quite a distance away from you, but thanks for the gesture mate..
Could you tell me where exactly the flasher unit is situated in these cars please.. and is it true that these cars have 2 flasher units???
thanks very much mate.. the advice will be of great help to me...
I would have also thought it was the flasher unit however if the hazards are working then the unit must be ok ??
The flasher unit looks like a relay and will either be in the drivers footwell on the side of the drivers door or under the bonnet. ( Sorry hope thats of some use )
Im still confused why the hazards flash though - The alarm will flash as it doesnt use the flasher unit it simply pulses the 12v supply but the hazards do use the flash !
Rght guys... It looks as if the unit is in the footwell, turn on the hazards and listen for it. could be under the dash (angle of picture)
Gareth.. yes it is one unit, but there are three separate inputs, left, right and hazard. it sounds like the electronics inside are shot.
There are a few guys up your end.. mostly MX6's but should be same flasher unit, as will other models of 626.
We're looking at a ten minute job here, just to check.
Definately get one from a scrappy.. these things are extortionate from Mazda dealers.

Firstly I would like to thank you 2 guys for replying to my indicator problem,
But unfortunatly for me.... the problem has now done my head in.... I had to go out in my car yesterday (using mine and my wifes hands as indicators)and about 5 mins. into our journey the indicators started to work as normal again.... then as quick as they started working they stuck on again (10 mins later)then a few mins later they unstuck again... then stuck again..and that went on through out our journey....aaahhhhhh.
I,ve been in touch with the scrap yard and I explained what happened on our journey, and he reckons its not the flasher unit but a fault with the wiring on my car alarm.....PLEASE HELP.....
I have,nt got a clue when it comes to the wiring of the car.... any ideas what it could be anyone??? PLEASE SAVE MY SANITY!!!!!!!!!
You should be able to trace the alarm wiring. on aftermarket alarms, they wire them to the back of the front indicators. sometimes they do this at the back of the indicator stalk inside the steering console.
Disconnect it and see if the probem goes.. if not.. CHANGE THE FLASHER UNIT !!!!

Sorry einstien i cant believe its the alarm - its totally separat from the flasher unit ( although isolating elements is usually a good idea )
Auto Wiring is a nightmare - the best method ive seen is using everything and finding out if anything else is effected ? IE Try EVERY other electrical switch and gizzmo to confirm there all working. As it started working again and then stopped its not a fuse but like einstien says it could well still be the flasher unit or at least its mounting - remove it and replace it it sounds more like a dogey contact to me - but these thing will all differ try the above and get back to us.
My guess would be the stalk. (indicator switch) If it has a bit of a short it could be the reason why they stay on. The contacts do get gunked up and it only takes a small piece of metal to short across the contacts.
Take it apart and give it a clean.
Dave
PS They are not difficult to get off.

What the hell is going on with my indicators,

Seriously for a random electrical problem autoelectritions firstly test every other "device" in the car. And checking the contacts on the flasher unit isnt exactly confusing - However im still convinced its NOT the flasher unit itself so my bets are else where.
Hey Maz626 see what youve started now - Hehe LEt us all know how you got on then the ridacule can begin

Firstly thanks to all for keeping me amused....
But still keep the bets coming in because the problem STILL has,nt been solved......
Right.... the flasher was in the foot well on the drivers side (well at least I thought it was) or could it still be!!!!!!!!!!!
I removed it, and its about 2" long by 1" wide and in big capitals it says "FLASHER"
NOW....... my 1st problem is.. no scrapyard in my area has one...
Secondly I,ve been in touch with the Mazda Dealer (because it looks like I,ll have to buy it brand new)and now they,ve told me that.. thats not the flasher unit I,ve took off.. they said the flasher unit is under the bonnet near the wing...... please god give me strength!!!!
So if thats not the flasher unit I,ve took off (keep in mind its got FLASHER in caps written on it) what the hell is it???????
Have I took the right thing off, or are the Mazda
Dealers really that thick????
What with this ongoing indicator problem battering my head in.. I,ve now got the dragon (the wife) giving me earache........ please save me from the she devil before I go insane...cheers
