Front pads

Sorry to be pain but I cannot locate a thread to explain performance pads for the front for my J-spec.
There are various references to "green stuff" but who makes it and any advice on suppliers.
I am running out of time since the front pads are low now
Thanks

Keith

EBC green stuff pads. They are EXCELLENT.

You can get them from Deamon tweeks and larkspeed etc.
Even Halfords motorworld etc.

Keith
I changed mine in the summer from the standard dealership stuff to th EBC green stuff (changed discs as well ) and it made a real difference.
I found mine at Demon tweeks code (EBCDP2971) at a cost of £35.88 +VAT+ DELIVERY.
I dont think they are listed in the catologue but just phone them up and ask. My 6 is a 1996 uk spec , but i don't think theres a difference

All at 6's and 7's

Ian your right there are other colours - Red and urm another one - there basically for competition use, not everyday driving - so green are the way to go.

As for using time wisely - hec yes - were contributing to the better good

I've been wondering about those Green Stuff pads too - just Googled these links and now I'm wondering even more - anyone on here found them wearing out real quick?

Also does anyone have experience of Rossini drilled and grooved disks? Or got any recommendations / comments on other makes? What sort of price did you pay for yours?

I had standard disks and pads on my 6 when i got it and the first time replaced them with standard pads. They seemed to last a little longer than my geen stuff pads although the braking effieciency is much improved. I also have ebc Spot drilled and grooved disks which also help. The only thing I will say is I noticed standard pads will wear down disks and the green stuff seem to be a lot nicer to the disk.

Its a question of performance over cost. Personally I think it will probably even itself out as I shouldnt need to replace my disks as often.

I may be talking rubbish but I heard that the grooved are a better option as the drilled ones end up with a temperature difference on the face due to the air passing through the holes and these causing problems for the disc. Patches of temperature differences across the face of a piece metal doesn’t do it any good.

Like I said it’s just something I heard and if I’m not mistaken it came from a Subaru fan.

The EBC disks are spot drilled. Cant remember the reason why. Grooved disks certainly help braking, especially when you need to stop suddenly.

My ( limited ) understanding is, Slotted, Spotted and Drilled are all to help with the cooling of the disc surface - Brakes will "fade" if the disc gets too hot. The Pad is ( mainly ) responsible for the stopping performance based on its compund ( too techy for me ) ie how well it grabs the disc. The EBCs are now on Version 4 due to earlier ones having issues with wear rates and heat dissapation - but are now highly regarded as the favoured option for those wishing for a simple upgrade.

As for drilled discs not being good - ill disagree but only for the fact that ALL of the motorbikes i had, had drilled discs and never had any issue with them. Any variation on a flat disc is likley to wear the pads at a slightly higher rate but hey the wont fade under extreme use like flat discs can.

Hope that nice and easy to understand - its only my understanding but it should be along the right lines.
