My friend recommende this site to me, i think i'm going to buy a stereo from here instead.

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/

may be move this in a day or two to the parts section, i'll let you know what they are like to deal with.

Its hard to say this site is cheaper than that - most have certain offers and items that are cheaper - it rare to find one shop that the cheapest for everything.

What u lookin at - specify a model and maybe we can help :-)

Its worth adding to the parts forum anyway as there not much audio kit in there - and lets face it no point having a great car that sound pants when u get in it

Hi Gareth

To start with i'm looking at a Sony CDX-M630 or may be the Sony CDXCA900.

then maybe replace the front speakers but that another job for another day.

I've trawled round a lot of sites looking and this one seems to be pretty good even if you ignore the specials; i'm always a bit suspicious but my friend (andy, you met him) got his from them and he seemed impressed.

Do you know what the factory fitted specs are for the speakers off the top of your head??

PS has anybody seen matts question on speakers in the parts section

Hi there,

I bought that exact same model stereo from those exact same people!

Very good service in terms of delivery, and the stereo is ace. However, after about 2 weeks the radio seemed to pack in, if I put it in tuner mode nothing was happening, and the electric aerial wasn't moving either. I sent them a mail asking about their returns policy and to date haven't heard a reply (this was about 3 months ago)
Anyway, I tried using the reset button on the unit (jab with a parker pen did the trick) and it sorted it, I just had to retune all my stations (one button does an auto tune for you though)

I also bought the sony Xplod amplified subwoofer from them, and that thing is just awesome! The standard speakers up front are fine for mid and treble (the rears are crap but they don't matter unless you drive from the back seat) The sub woofer makes such a difference (besides shaking ALL the mirrors on the car )

Wiring it in is easy enough too (on a 626GT) as all the trim just pops off dead easy, took me about 2 minutes torun the pre-amp cables down the right hand side of the car, another 5 minutes to run a power cable form the battery through the bulkhead and down the left hand side, meeting up with the remote switch on for the amp.

Sorry, have digressed - needless to say the head unit is ace, but BUY THE SUBWOOFER, you won't regret it. Your neighbours might though.

Hi which one did you buy the Sony CDX-M630 or the Sony CDXCA900, i opted for the CDXCA900 as the M630 doesn't have a detachable face and i have to aprk on the road and some little git is bound to think he can freeze the code out and make a mess of my car in the process.

New stereo turned up yesterday, fitted it last night (top slot and disconnected the power from "the clock") only problem now is it's too distracting at the moment; i'm sure the novelty will wear off.

Has anybody else fitted a sony remote to the steering column, the reason i ask is that the windscreen wiper control comes a long way down and looks like it might get in the way; any other ideas (other than the other side); it's the ball shaped one not the stalk type.

anybody know where i can get a DIN sized blanking plate?
