MOMO JET Installation

So I thought I would do a small write up on this as I have just done it.

Generally would be straight forward but for the cruise controls.

No it wouldn't. WHY??
As you can see the back of the MOMO hub supplied for the mx-6 has this brass ring which will NOT marry to the plate in the column. so even if you wanted to lose cruise control mods would be needed. (might be OK an later models without cruise)

Std hub supplied.

OK so lets look at the std setup on the column.
You can see the cruise and horn wires and the plug they come from.

A better shot of the multi plug and how far it protrudes.

So Options?? I wanted to keep cruise control and do as little modding to the column as possible so I modified the hub.

Hub Fitted showing multi plug.

I then dissconected the cruise switched from the origonal wheel

Pic shows the controls in place and plugged in.

OK so our controls look fine on the std wheel but on the MOMO I wasnt sure. Yes I was I didnt like them so I ended up with a temp fix here. (I wasnt going to drill holes in the new wheel as I am going to change the switches to one either side of the horn push) So I used some double sided body tape to fix the switches to the wheel untill I can sort out new switches.

And the final result (Obvoiusly without the new switches)

Hope this helps if anyone else is contemplating this.

Dave

nice one Dave looks sweet

Im always wary of changing key items as something like a wheel could totally ruin the interior of a car - but looks like you made the right chose - looking good ....

Very nice look Dave. Like you said, subtle.

It's something I would have like to do too - trouble is I've got this f'in big airbag in the middle and I may as well stick with what I've got.

That dash looks different to mine (the 626 one), I think, as I haven't seen mine for the last two months but it doesn't look quite right.
Anyone else think so?

I am thinking of adding Mark 626GT to my ignore list

It's probably them white dials.

Dave, does this mean that you're gonna have to get a 'Momo' keyring now?

Oops, sorry - missed your drift.
In that case I haven't a clue. I've not seen the inside of a 626...

Hi Mark

The dash on the 626 picture show the clock inside the dash part,
where on ours it's outside of the dash.

What 626 it is and year I don't know just a pic I came across with a different streering wheel that has kept the crause control.

Ah, that maybe why I couldn't see anything out of place - my Xedos6 had the same clock to the left of the main dash.
That's why I just had to get rid of the din sized clock in the MX6!

I'm looking at buying a wheel and boss like this but I have an airbag steering wheel.

Will I have any probs with installation or removing the old wheel?

Dont have cruise so I may not encounter the probs Dave had.

My manual doesn't cover airbags.. but there are two screws behind, which hold the front pad on the wheel, so possibly holds the airbag as well.. don't try to pry the pad off.
You will have to deactivate the airbag before removing... just in case
