Question Ford Probe and MX6 compatability...

hi

i often read posts on the forum saying that parts listed to fit a 24v 2.5v6 ford probe will fit the same engine mx6...

am i right in thinking then, the engine and chassis are almost identical and therefore anything liisted for a probe will fit my car? including suspension kits, exhausts, lightened flywheels etc etc

are any parts of these cars disimilar?

cheers

Yes the engine in the 24v probe is the KLO3 which is fitted to our cars. This means Induction kits, FSE Booste Valves and anything else designed for the engine will fit. Flywheels, Gearbox (thats where i got mine from). From what a can remember Dave and Andy have got Scropion Back box for a probe although i thing the center section is different.

As for suspension... They are identical. Brakes are identical.

If there are specifics that you want to check on then ask.

Obviously boddy pannels and most of the interior are different. If i remember right though the front seats should fit a 6.

Kyle

PS One point though... your 6 is an auto and unless you are thinking of converting it to manual you dont have and dont need a flywheel.

An exhaust is really what i was considering. the standard one on my six is a little tired and was gonna get an s/s exhaust. i found a cat-back system made by scorpian but only for the probe v6, not the mx6 v6....

so if the centre pipe is different this cat-back wont fit, right?

cheers

Not sure for definate. Dave (MX6-UK) is the best one to talk to about that. Cant remember what he said now.

The back box would still fit and you could use a standard center??? Just an idea.

Kyle.

That or goto powerflow and get a s/s custom made. Not as dear as you would expect. Mine was £325 cat back.

Yes you have, and yes you do need one...

The engine would not run properly without one.

Kyle... I don't want to get into conversations how engines work... but...

EVEN THE AUTO HAS A FLYWHEEL

I know you changed yours.. so you know what one looks like..

The inertia in the flywheel is a major part in making any engine smooth running..
and another thing, did you notice that the outer edge is like a gear?? What do you think the starter motor uses to turn over the engine..

The only difference, is a manual flywheel has a smooth ring to take the clutch plate, the auto has some holes that correspond with some pegs on the torque converter.

Nevertheless, it still has one. It is part of the engine, not the transmission..

I can't be arsed putting a picture up. but I am looking at it now, and blow me if the ATX doesn't have a flywheel.. yes it does you know..
