Is it all over???

I said I would update you all but didnt. The main reason was I was truely gutted during last week.

The reason being it was nearly all over. As most of you are aware my 6 has looked rather sorry for the last 12 months and i kept promising to do a full respray. Last month I started with a mate a full strip down of the shell (engine interior all out) ready to have the car fully resprayed. Now when we started this we knew it wouldnt be an easy job but hey it was only pannel gapping.

Well its not. The inner wing is bent and we suspect the chasis leg has been moved and needs jigging to do it all properly. Well a little depressed I was starting to think it was all over. BUT ITS NOT.

Last weekend i took posetion of a J-Spec (he he he). The body isnt mint but its a far cry from my last 6. The thing is she needs an engine and a few other things.

Piccy here... http://members.lycos.co.uk/cmad/new6.jpg

So as from Friday Im starting work on her. Old engine out. Fit my engine with the inlet manifold and cams from the j-spec. Convert it to manual (nasty auto!!!). Swap the interior. Replace a passenger wing and rear bumper (nasty horrible fog light has been fitted). Clean and full buff, Swap suspension, Brakes, Exhaust and anything else i have forgot.

Now before you say it yes I know its a crime to break a 6 but its that or break this new one. Either way im still saving one.

Now obviously im going to have spares (some uk some jap) but let me know if anyone wants anything.

oh and BTW we are hoping to get it all done and be back on the road for USC, if not she will be on the road for all to see at trax.

Kyle.

12 months ago I was involved in an accident. They wrote the car off and I bought it back. Thanks to dave I repaired it. Now at the time I remember checking the chasis leg and there was no visible damage apart from a scratch. The inner wing was bent a little. Now ive come to get it all sorted it seems it must have been damaged and gone unnoticed. The car still drove straight and passed an mot but I want to do it right. So when i got offered this J-Spec i jumped.

As for the flywheel... Ive changed mine before and im now running an mx3 flywheel cause they are lighter.

Engine and box come out in one (a squeeze but they do) and its going back in as one as ive had enough of trying to fit the box on the car (done it twice already!!!).

Well will let you all know how far i get this weekend.

Progress So Far!!!

Well the auto engine isnt as easy to pull but having done the manual one i already know everything to expect.

In just over a day the engine and box was out. The only real problem ive found is that the hub nuts are siezed exceptionally tight. My air gun, breaker bar (which broke) and and air chisiel for 3 hours and nothing so im swapping both hubs and because the the bottom ball joints have had it im replacing the bottom arms as well.

Also started to remove the interior. Clocks are out as they are auto and in kph, Auto selector has been removed and removed the keylocking mechinism which is fitted to the autos.

Not bad really for a weekend.

Im trying to get time off work but becuase of commitments im not able to yet. Going to build up my engine with the ze cams, inlet manifold and do the cam belt and water pump while its all out this week and try and get it all back in for a sunday test drive. Its still alot todo especially when both cars are parked about an hour away!!! Oh well its comming along though.

Well i knew it would never be as easy as my last 6 as ive had most of that one apart before. The j-spec isnt to bad is just the hubs being sieazed really.

One thing i still cant find how to do is remove the speed limiter. Aparently i need to cut the spedo wire to the ecu but which one is that??? John any ideas???

Kyle.. bearing in mind it's a J-Spec... the only one I can see is a green wire with a red stripe.. cut at the ECU as further up the line it goes to the cruise control section..

to test.. you need to go over whatever speed J-Specs are limited to... make sure no dibbles are around mate.

I think most jap import cars are limited to 180kmph or 112mph.

Yet another night of frustration. Ahhhhhh.

I dont belive it. The bottom arms on my old 6 have obviously never been off and are so tight its unreal. I will have to have another go tonight. On the plus side started stripping down my engine. Inlet manifold and Exhaust Manifolds removed from my KL03 ready for the ZE intake and Pace Setter Headers. Need to get on and do the cams so I can do the Cam belt and water pump.

Ive taken next week off so I can really hit on it but the aim is to get it back in and running this weekend (although at the moment thats looking a long way off).
