Hi, guys, as mentioned last week, failed MOT due to main beam not working (bulbs are fine).
Tomorrow's the deadline for free retest, and no-one I've contacted has had space in diary to book me in & fix it.
Does ANYONE know of someone within say 100 miles who I can be sure can fix this today? Really don't want to have to pay for the retest - remember, I'm still not working!

Anyway autoelectricians have my respect - its a knitmare to trace ( I spent 7 years as an electronics engineer and they get my respect ).
However - Lighting should be relativley simple:
1) Do ALL other switched devices int eh car work .... ( sounds silly but usually a good sign )
2) Are ALL fuses ok
3) Test the Bulbs
4) Test the holders aren't rusted
5) Check the switches ( either replace or bypass or if careful short them ! )
6) If in a rush simply wire your own circuit in place !! Beware though as main beam will use ALOT of current so decent wireing is required else high risk of fire )
Maybe try some of the above simon - let us know how you get on...
1, interior ceiling light only works intermittently, all other things perfect, including reading lights.
5, I've WD40-ed all relays under bonnet I could find, and blue dash light works now, but that's all. Don't have know-how or equipment to check switches...
6, dunno how! Always had company cars till now, so am technical incompetent!
Will keep calling around locally, and seeing if anyone posts a number online to try. Local Ford garage won't even look at it, even though I tried to tell dumb receptionist it's same as a Probe....

He may b able to suss it out!
Thanks, Stu. He's booked up as all others seem to be, but I'll go out now and drive around to try to find someone locally.
Anyone with miracle solution, please get my number from Stu if he's online, as I can't post it in the forums in case some supermodel gets it and starts stalking me...you know how it is

Ill be online until 3pm!
emm how bout dagenham moters staines?just drive it in there and then ask for advice, also try Murcury cars down the A30 not far from ashford hospital!!!
Mazda garage in Byfleet weybridge!
As you can tell mate my works quite easy hehehe Cooking for 50 peoples so easy!
If the Blue light is on id say there working !! there usually wired up in series ( effectivley before einstein picks me up .. ) with the circuit so if there on the lights should be on. Are you sure there the right bulbs ?
Have you got a voltmeter ? switch to main beam with no bulbs in an check the voltage ?
Its gonna be something small and simple after all this hassel....
Went to an alarm shop who gave me number of a mobile guy who met me in a pub car park (quite pleasurable... I don't mean in a George Michael way...)
Anyway, for his £50 call-out he started with the bulbs and worked back. In 5 minutes he'd spotted that the connectors directly behind the light clusters (black, three wires, no plastic H2O protection) had corroded.
He tried cleaning them, but it didn't work, so he replaced both sets with crimped push-connectors with plastic water shielding. Now it's Perfick! I can flash all the other '6'ers out there, and drive faster at night Maybe even 31 MPH!
Also found a firm who will do me a catback in 304 s/s (better than Powerflow) for £350, and chromed downpipe for my CAI for £40.
Happy day!
