Hi all, this is the 3rd time I've attemted at posting this thread so I'll keep it short.
I still havent found the right car, so I havent posted much since joining. While looking in local garages I've come across a couple of questions that used dealers havent been able to answer, so I figured you lot should know !!
What differences are there between UK 1st and 2nd gen models (apart from leather) ?
Was 4WS standard on UK models or just US cause I've seen one advertised with it, but only one ?
Firstly, if you are talking about the MX6, there is only one type in the UK.
The '1st Gen' ones that are talked about in the US, Aus etc, were called 626 coupe's over here.
In short the only MX6 in the UK is what others will call the second gen. And leather was an option on all years. The difference between early and later ones is cruise control / airbag. The early ones will have cruise, the later ones will have an airbag.
Secondly, the UK spec was not offered with 4ws, the ones you might have seen will be Jap-Spec ones, which have a more powerful engine and a few other bits different...
There are some for sale in the 'for sale' section here, Asterix's one is good, and if you want a slightly modded one then Maputosimon's is (i think) still available.
Hope that helps

4WS is mentioned in the owners handbook...
and it was also available on the 87-92 1st gen MX-6.. or 626 coupe (and hatchback version) 2ltr 16V twin cam 143BHP
The 92 -97 range is a much better car in my opinion. I have had both, and still think it is the best, even over the newer 97+ models (626)

4ws kicks ass. J-specs are ace. Ive had a uk car and ive got a j-spec now and not only do you get the extra 30bhp over uk cars (providing its a 2.5) but you get 4ws (which is well cool), climate control and a few other toys including electric folding mirrors. The only downside is most are autos. Mine was but ive converted it to manual. Also never seen one with leather so ive had to fit that as well. As for parts most are the same or can be addapted but a few things like headlights, ignition coil and dizzy cap are a pain to get hold of. Hope you find what your looking for. Oh btw J-Specs didnt have Cruise Control regardless of year.

I dunno, you go for an extended lunch break and when you come back your threads gone mad - god I miss forum's !!
Right, what I'm looking for is a late MX6 with leather, FSH with about 60-80K on the clock, preferably standard as I like doing my own mods as I'm sure most of you do !!
I'd originally planned on spending around 3 grand but it seems I'll have to up that if I want leather. I like the sound of a jap spec as I'm a gadget man at heart and the extra HP has to be a good idea.
I've seen plenty of red ones but heard about the dreaded fade, and to be honest I'd only ever buy one car in red, and it would have a prancing horse on the bonnet. So really it would have to be black, silver, grey or platinum (seen one of those on Autotrader v.tasty).
I bought my MX6 in December, 95 - M plate , 97K on clock and full leather.
I paid 2300, so I think you should be able to get one for around the 3K you've been looking at with the lower mileage.
But as many of hte guys and gals here will say, the car can take much more mileage as long as it is looked after.
Well worth the 2p I thought Russ, thanks for your input.
Thats quite encouraging, I'll just have to look harder, maybe stop searching for trade cars and try some private sellers. Always a bit wary of that though as I've been stung once and swore I'd go trade from then on. Plus warranties have been a god send in the past, but everyone I've spoken too reckons the 6 is a pretty sound motor 'as long as its been looked after'.
Right then, i'll start sweeping the classifieds tonight - cheers all !!

i tried that once and it knackered the paintwork. in fact we nearly all had an option of that at the new forest meet when the horse got loose.
with regards the comments in this thread, also, try to get a car with service history, if as previously mentioned, it has had the oil changed regularly 5-6000 miles, then you can afford to up the milage a bit. look for signs of care, a worn steering wheel and pedal rubbers tend to indicate a higher milage than the clock says, a good guide is if the pattern is worn smooth on the steering wheel, the car has prob done at least 90K. slide the front seats well back to compare carpet wear, that sort of thing. make sure all the locks match. different keys tend to indicate a recovered stolen car.
one last thing, if the car has aircon, check with the engine running and the aircon on, that the left hand cooling fan is running. if it isnt then thats a repair you will need to carry out.

@ Mike.
I'd forgotten about that
Mind you, FPOC were closest, so it didn't really bother me that much
(what a plonker that guy was - it obviously happened more often than not...)
