Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call when you are unable to speak?

Red face first timer with simple questions - sorry!

Hello from Wirral
I bought a trade deal 'as seen' R reg MX6 2.5V6 GT 85K on clock for £2,650 three weeks ago. The clutch went on day two but the trader stumped up a bit and now £390 later it's going again.
It's dark blue and GREEAAT!
It seems all original with no mods I think. I'm not technical with motors a bit I just like driving and looking at them!
Can I make some points about the car that you guys might be able to help me with? Cheers!
1. The air con light doesn't come on - it seems knackered. I'm not bothered about this but don't want it on all the time without me knowing. It certainly doesn't seem to be on. I guess this is a common thing with air con in an older motor anyway.
2. The sun roof slides but doesn't tilt. (Was it supposed to?) I guess this is bust? Again no great shakes.
3. The idle tick over is about 500rpm - that's as technical I get. Inside the car it's so quiet I keep thinking it's stalled but seems just a bit too slow to me - as if it's going to stall. Though it's not yet. Outside though it's a bit nosiy and tappet sounding? - is this usual?
4. In slow traffic in first and second it's as juddery as hell unless I get the throttle just right. What's the score here? Is this easily improved? This isn't helped as I'm an auto man having had 325i, 520i, Merc E200 and V70 autos in that order. Yes. I'm mid 40's and now going through second childhood!

Finally for now my 15 year old son cajouled me to put a NOS sticker on the back. I know it's not cool but honk if you see me. Don't make a w*nker sign!!

Look forward to your comments.
Anyone local might take a look?

Cheers
Bri

All mx-6's have the air con button but not all have air con. To find out if when you look at the radiator you can see what looks like another small radiator then is has AC if not then you dont have it hence the light wont come on. Although I thought most late models had it so it might be a fuse problem

2. The sun roof slides but doesn't tilt. (Was it supposed to?) I guess this is bust? Again no great shakes.

The action of the sunroof lifting to slide is the tilt. The back comes up in one stage then it slides back

Tick over should be about 650 +-50. Does the motor feel bumpy like it will stall or is it just thatyou think the revs are low.?

Could be a few things but plugs leads etc would be a first stage to improve things.

you just need to follow the sticker with the real stuff

Look forward to your comments.

Glad to take a look and we could pull the engine codes that will tell you if all is OK.

Welcome to the board Brian..

Dave has mentioned nearly all of your queries, apart from the tappet noise..

This is very common, and means it could do with an oil and filter service.. a flush would be good for it too.

Only ever use a genuine Mazda filter, and as they are cheap enough, it's criminal not to.

As he said, check for two radiators, and fans.. also, aluminium pipework, some which has black foam "lagging"..

Spark plug leads start to go from 50K miles.. and treat her to a set of plugs..

Anything else, just holler.. we can help.

slow tickover

The tachometers don't always read very accurately but there should be an accurate reading of the tickover speed on the emissions test from the last MOT.
